2013 Draft- 6th Round- Emil Petterson-C

Hard to find info about this selection. Slight build. Will have to fill out to play at NHL level.

Quote:

The Predators returned to the offensive side with the selection of center Emil Pettersson (155th overall) from Timra of the Swedish Junior League. In 44 games in 2012-13, Pettersson was a point-per-game player, posting 13 goals and 31 assists with Timra’s junior squad. The 80th-ranked European skater will return to Timra for the 2013-14 season.

“He’s a traditional centerman,” Preds European Scout Lucas Bergman said. “His strength is definitely skating and puck skills. He’s a puck distributer most of all. He plays in all situations. He kills penalties, runs the powerplay. He’s always been the smallest guy on the block. He’s probably grown 12 inches in the past three years, so obviously there’s some rawness to him..”

12 inches in 3 years? So 3 years ago, he was 5 feet tall? Scary!

Of all our picks, I think this could be the Zetterberg/Datsyuk out-of-nowhere home run. He's set to play for Timra's senior team in the Allsvenskan, so he should get plenty of opportunity to prove himself after they just got relegated like Aberg did with Djurgarden (although Aberg had really established himself the year before in the Elitserien).

Allsvenskan is a good league for young players development, some experts say that Allsvenskan is faster than SHL (before elitserien) but they don't play as organinized hockey as in SHL. But a good league to start playing senior icehockey and to take the next step to SHL.

The thing with Emil is that it can probably take several years (3-5?) before he is a player of NHL standards or if he ever will be. Possible time range is as follows: 2 years in Allsvenskan and 2 years in SHL before he can make the step to NHL? Just my opinion.
