Scott Laughton

So, pretty simple question. Is Scott Laughton ready to play the full season next year?

RoDu 07-01-2013 06:50 PM

yes he is

RussianRocket10 07-01-2013 06:51 PM

Simple answer to a simple question: Yes.

Good. Really excited to see that.

Roo Mad Bro 07-01-2013 06:56 PM

Sure seems like it. Had one hell of a year.

Stizzle 07-01-2013 06:57 PM

All reports point to yes.

King Forsberg 07-01-2013 07:00 PM

No. He's a bust. Trade him for Derek Morris.

Homer :towel:

poneill27 07-01-2013 07:23 PM

Yes but he should go back to jr and get top line /pp duties for 1 more year.

Agreed.

RoDu 07-01-2013 10:13 PM

he's beyond jr now, no need to be a big fish in a little pond, time to move up

That wouldn't be very Flyers like :sarcasm:

If only there was some other league...

He's not eligible. It's either the NHL or back to the OHL.

Damaged Goods 07-01-2013 11:18 PM

Still? Sheesh. I assumed he would be eligible since he finished the year there.

Edit: I see that he is still 5 months too young. Lame.

Most players who jump from the CHL to the NHL have dominated the CHL for two seasons. Laughton has started to do it for one year. If he's on the 3rd line here and Couturier is on the 2nd, that could wind up ugly this year (Peter Principle in effect). I still say it's preferable to hold off for a year unless he can't be denied in camp.

Roman Reigns 07-01-2013 11:22 PM

I really hate that rule.

He was on an ATO contract. CHL players are allowed to play in the AHL when their season is up with their CHL team even if they aren't eligible age wise.

It sucks sometimes but I understand why it's there. The CHL is a 16-20 year old league. If you eliminate the 19 and 20 year olds it really kills the overall talent in the league as a whole.

phlocky 07-02-2013 12:03 PM

IMO yes, he'll most likely be our 4th line center and if he shows well in camp, he could get some PK time. I think he'll eventually get moved to the wing and play on Coots line but that'll be another year or 2 from now.

DecadesofFutility 07-02-2013 12:08 PM

My question is simply is he ready to be traded?
Could still use more offensive defenseman in backend.
Maybe they could trade Laughton + Coburn for a young #1 defenseman?

For us Flyers fans it's fair value.

But for another team, to make them consider moving their #1 d-man, Flyers need to overpay.

Start with Couturier and Coburn.

McNasty 07-02-2013 12:39 PM

He should be given the chance to make the roster, but if he's just going to be a 4th liner and struggle if he has to move up due to injury I would rather they send him back to Juniors and sign someone like Steckel for a stop gap on the 4th line.

Solefool 07-02-2013 12:58 PM

Wait, so the Flyers can't stick him in the AHL this year? He has to either make the NHL roster or they have to send him back to the OHL for another year? That kinda sucks.
