2014 Calder Trophy prediction
After seeing how the NHL draft went, what is everyones prediction who will win the Calder next season. And also who the finalists will be. I know some players that have played in the AHL may end up having great rookie seasons and get a nomination too but I think some players that were just drafted were drafted to great situations.

I love Barkovs situation in Florida and he is my choice

runner ups - Nathan Mackinnon (COL)
Ryan Strome (NYI) *have a strange feeling he will have a strong season

Going with Baertschi.

I'd go with Baertschi as well. Going to be 21, should get lots of opportunities in scoring role this time. Give him some actual time on the first unit PP and hopefully a longer leash now that the Flames know they aren't likely to win it anytime soon.

Of course if Hartley treats him the same way he did last year, he'd be stupid not to demand a trade by November.

Drouin or Strome.

Kevin27nyi 07-01-2013 08:59 PM

Throw in Strome for 2015, he will be at the very least starting for Bridgeport.

tucker3434 07-01-2013 09:00 PM

If Drouin is setting up Stamkos, he's going to put up tons of points. He's my guess. Baertschi and Barkov are 2 and 3 in some order. I don't think MacKinnon is in the conversation, because I think he's going to be brought in slowly on the 3rd line. He won't play the minutes the others do.

Mackinnon, Jones, Schiefele, Toffoli, Nichushkin are my choices

UsernameWasTaken 07-01-2013 09:07 PM

Strome or Forsberg.

boredmale 07-01-2013 09:14 PM

If Strome plays with Tavares, you can expect some inflated stats. My guess is for Strome it's either first line RW or Bridgeport(at least for half a season)

Avs_19 07-01-2013 09:26 PM

Drouin might run away with it if he plays with Stamkos. He's my pick.

BestWestern 07-01-2013 09:30 PM

Lol. Bleacher report.

Going to be from an EC team, so probably Drouin.

I like this. The kids going to have a great year.

BusQuets 07-01-2013 09:39 PM

I think it will be someone older whose name I don't know yet.

I hate that website. Just let me read things without clicking over and over.

Joey Moss 07-01-2013 09:50 PM

Drouin would be my early prediction.

Duke749 07-01-2013 09:51 PM

Is Mackinnon even going to get the necessary ice time to have a legit shot?

Barkov and Drouin are probably in a little better situations.

Scheif will be up there. Should get at least 3rd line time, possibly more. Could be on a line with Kane.

Think someone from a previous draft wins it over someone from the '13 draft.

Kuznetsov? ****. Tarasenko? ****. Ummmm...I haven't received my camp invite yet, so I'll just say Ryan Strome.
