Belanger

Belanger on waivers per Rishaug

EchoesoftheEighties 07-04-2013 11:16 AM

In Mac T we trust! I really thought he'd be a good 3rd/4th line C but it's just been a disaster. This is what's best for both parties.

syz 07-04-2013 11:16 AM

Tambellini's one good signing on paper... too bad his game disappeared.

Now I'm just interested to see if he goes back to being a perennial 30-40 point guy on another team.

Wheathead 07-04-2013 11:17 AM

Good.

deep44 07-04-2013 11:18 AM

PHEEWWW.... i waas getting ready to rant about why he hasn't been put on waviers

dem 07-04-2013 11:20 AM

I don't understand how this guy was getting 10-15 goals and 35-40 points before coming to the Oilers..
Did he just fall off a cliff or is it the team?

Watching him the last 2 years.. I just can't see how he did it..

I really thought we were heading the right direction when we signed this guy.

MetaOil1993 07-04-2013 11:20 AM

:handclap: Peace!! Belanger.

He's played for a fair share of teams who just didn't have many options offensively over the years, I suppose.

Although his shooting percentage evaporated in Edmonton, so I don't know.

Pretty much, haha. He'll go on to score 15 goals and we'd be all like, wtf haha. But with the Oiler curse, half of them will be against us. Guaranteed snipes.

This isn't a compliance buyout is it?

I don't know, but doing so would be pretty pointless.

McDNicks17 07-04-2013 11:41 AM

Someone claim him...please!

GTFO Eric.

The Belanger Triangle implodes and destroys itself.

Moonlapse Vertigo 07-04-2013 11:50 AM

See you in hell, Eric.

Glad this is happening.

Don't know why his play evaporated so badly in Edmonton, but in my opinion, he was consistently the Oilers worst player over the past two years (aside from faceoffs).

Even if the rumours of him being a locker room cancer are completely unfounded, the guy was just plain crap.

Good riddance, Belanger.

NeutralZone 07-04-2013 11:58 AM

Good move, so long as MacT can find someone to replace him.

Njoy Oilers 07-04-2013 12:10 PM

Smell you later.

misfit 07-04-2013 12:10 PM

The two main things he was brought in to do (faceoffs and PK), I think he did an excellent job at. Unfortunately, zero of the offense he managed over his career ever materialized. And with MacT's comment about players having to be at least marginally a threat to score, it was clear Belanger wasn't going to be here much longer.

Still, I think a compliance buyout might be a waste on a player who's only got 1 year left at a cap hit of under $2M. I would've just buried him in the minors and taken the ~$900K (or whatever it is) cap penalty or used a regular buyout and carried the $500K or so for the next 2 seasons.

Considering how much better the team played last year with him not in the lineup, playing with 11 forwards/game might be an upgrade (I'm not exaggerating).

Paajarvi must be happier than a house elf with a dirty sock right now.

Good riddance, worst Oiler ever!!!

While I agree with you in principle, at the moment the Oilers' only bad contracts are Horcoff, Smyth, Belanger, Hemsky, and Eager.

Horcoff and Hemsky are bad contracts, but if MacT strikes out in free agency, they are better options than buying them out and not filling the holes that they leave.

In regards to Smyth, management seems intent on keeping him for another year, so that doesn't count. And with Eager, he's 700,000/year cheaper, so he's easier to bite the bullet on and bury in the minors.

Maybe they just wanted to get rid of him?
