I hope that if we sign Emery we can lure back Nabokov too. It's not that unrealistic, given the dearth of teams that could actually offer him starting jobs (might just be us). I don't put enough stock in Poulin/Nilsson to want to risk going into the season with a sub-par starter being forced to carry the load.

Riseonfire 07-04-2013 01:40 PM

Incarcerated Bob saying we're talking to the Ducks along with Philly about Bobby Ryan's availability. Don't know what we have left to offer other than our 1st next year and Mayfield.

Though Ryan is awesome.... I think Strome and our 1st is too much. We need to keep as much center depth as we can.

Grabner, 1st and Mayfield though?

I am waiting to see what Dallas coughed up for Seguin, but with Eriksson as the primary return the only thing we have close to him for trade is Moulson, but Eriksson has a better overall game. I will be interested to see the whole deal before drawing an opinion.

SLAPSHOT723 07-04-2013 01:48 PM

Like I said in the last thread:

I really hope no one here goes off about how Garth should have tried to get Seguin or Eriksson with some pieces we had. Would never be able to happen.

LAIslanderFan 07-04-2013 01:50 PM

I noticed Giroux is asking $8 million from Philly. David Clarkson might be expecting $5-6 million.

I don't think that Snow will pay anyone more then $5.5 million a year anytime soon. That's Tavares's annual salary, and since he's the Islanders franchise player, I think that Snow would be unwilling to pay any UFA's more then that.

That would certainly cap the amount that any free agent will get from the Islanders the next few years.

Does anyone else agree with me on that?

Flyers offer one of Brayden Schenn or Couturier as centerpiece. Have to beat that somehow.

We can't cap our max offers because Tavares took a ridiculous team friendly deal. We owe him a thank you card and a 9 million dollar per year extension for doing that.

Ryan's name comes up alot in trade rumors. Why do the Ducks want to move him?

By the way, I would trade Moulson and a draft pick for him.

That's why I think it's difficult to sign anyone for more then $5.5 million a year. Tavares has been so great during all the turmoil, I don't know how you can pay anyone more then him. In my opinion, that sends a bad signal.

I guess that's why I could never be a GM.

SLAPSHOT723 07-04-2013 02:01 PM

There's nobody out there to sign to a deal worth over $5.5 million. But you gotta think that if Garth can trade for a quality player with a contract over $5.5 million, I think he'd do it.

He was rumored to be on the block last summer, probably because people thought the Ducks might be in cap trouble soon. Bobby was asked about it and wasn't happy to keep hearing about it and its been that way ever since. Add to it that he grew up a Flyers fan and Philly is obsessed with getting him back.

Moulson and a first wont get it done.

I can see trading for somone making more the Tavares, because the contract would not have originated with Snow.

As far as this year, it isn't as much of a concern. I'm thinking more about next year and the year after that, when the UFA market might be more potent.

LAIslanderFan 07-04-2013 02:09 PM

The latest, is that Sequin and Peverley are going to the Stars.

Seguin. With a G. Why do people do that?

Publeck skool ejukasion

seabass45 07-04-2013 02:16 PM

"Seguin, Peverly and Button to Stars. For Eriksson, J.Morrow R.Smith and Matt Fraser." Dreger

Still think Seguin can be a franchise center. This is a good wakeup call.

LAIslanderFan 07-04-2013 02:18 PM

Seguin, Peverley, Button for Eriksson, Morrow, Smith, Fraser per Dreger.

seabass45 07-04-2013 02:19 PM

BTW, that should be enough of a salary dump for Boston to sign Rask to a long term deal with room for depth signings. Aaron Asham, come on down?

EDIT: I forgot that they're still courting Alfie. Geeeeeeez.

Briere to Montreal for 2 years, 8 mil, according to TSN Radio 690.

bioman22 07-04-2013 02:26 PM

Mikhail Grabovski is now a FA. A 1-2 year deal would be good, he could fill our need for #2 center until Strome/Nelson are ready...

I think with the propects coming to camp next year and the trade for Clutterbuck, the Islanders should just focus and finding a #1 goaltender.

So much for wanting to stay by his family
