Brian Gionta vs David Desharnais - Which one goes?

Which one is it?

1. Brian Gionta, the captain entering the final season left on his deal, at 5 million? It's painfully obvious the guy is no longer an ideal top 6 player at the NHL level.

vs

2. David Desarnais, the younger player with a longer contract who significantly regressed last season. Many of us questioned the odd timing of the extension.

Which one will be easier to trade? Which one do you THINK will be gone?

Jee 07-04-2013 07:04 PM

Desharnais this year.

Gionta next year.

Well yeah, Gionta is on the last year of his contract. They can afford to wait him out. Desharnais, on the other hand, needs to get traded, preferably for a prospect and/or pick.

Marc Bergevins Suit 07-04-2013 07:06 PM

Not sure Bergevin will move Desharnais due to the fact he just signed him to an extension...Therefore it could very well be Gionta going between the two of them even though i disagree with this.

OpenIceHit 07-04-2013 07:07 PM

I want both gone. Both will stay.

Habs Fan 13 07-04-2013 07:10 PM

I would like to see both gone, but I also think that both will be really hard to move. In fact, the 4 years contract makes Desharnais almost impossible to move at this point. Seriously, which team will want to trade for a 5'7'' center who only had one good season on a last place team? Gionta, with all his injury problems, won't be easy to move either. Unfortunatly, I think that if we want to get more size, we may have to trade Plekanec.

Watsatheo 07-04-2013 07:12 PM

Neither. Gionta signs extension soon with a NMC.

Chiyo 07-04-2013 07:12 PM

I could see Lamoriello trade for Gionta if he's healthy.

Shaby23 07-04-2013 07:13 PM

There is no teams that want one of them.

ForeverTherrien 07-04-2013 07:13 PM

The one with 2 functioning arms and can be traded because he's not hurt.

Beatnik 07-04-2013 07:16 PM

I don't think DD could be traded. He simply does not worth his contract.

Gionta does'nt not have much value for now but maybe we could get something at the deadline. I think we'll start the season with both.

Ozymandias 07-04-2013 07:19 PM

Having both DD and Briere is redundant.

Claimed Off Waivers 07-04-2013 07:20 PM

Neither, they will both stay Habs

Knuckles30 07-04-2013 07:22 PM

I'm scared to even bring this up, but I think Gallagher is the one who gets traded. As much as I love him, he's one of the only chips we have to land a power forward through trade.

dunner 07-04-2013 07:22 PM

Can we trade Briere instead?

NobleSix 07-04-2013 07:24 PM

Both hopefully.

I would be happy with moving one though.

No way Bergevin dedicates this draft to size and grit, while stating that the plan is to get bigger and tougher, then goes into the season with Briere, Gionta, and Desharnais.

JayKing 07-04-2013 07:24 PM

I'd like to trade DD, but in the end, both will stay.

Markowicz 07-04-2013 07:26 PM

Why isn't Plekanec in this poll?

Hullois 07-04-2013 07:27 PM

Trade DD because Gionta's contract is over by the end of next season anyway. DD is on the payroll for 4 more years

Natey 07-04-2013 07:28 PM

Neither.

Go Habs Go. :)

No chance that Gallagher gets traded, he's way too valuable.

AntonCH 07-04-2013 07:31 PM

My reasoning is simple
If you get rid of DD now
And Gionta's contract runs out at the end of the season
Then BOTH are gone!!
Still have to cope with Gallagher; Pleky and Briere - BUT not for long

That's why I think he might get traded. Would you object if, as part of a package, he landed you an Evander Kane type player?

WeThreeKings 07-04-2013 07:37 PM

Both hopefully.

Blind Gardien 07-04-2013 07:38 PM

I have to go with "neither". At least, not soon. Gionta after this coming season. Desharnais whenever he sucks bad enough to basically be released/demoted/traded for a 5th round. But we start the season with both of them.
