I like it! Maybe a year too much

Skm 07-05-2013 11:12 AM

4 Years, AAV of $3.25M

dyzfunctioned 07-05-2013 11:13 AM

Honestly would have rather had Gilbert. And don't like the term. But still better than Potter

Skm 07-05-2013 11:13 AM

Signed until he's 38...hmmm

Jimmi Jenkins 07-05-2013 11:13 AM

The term is slightly long, but the dollars are great. If the cap keeps going up, $3.25M in 2 or 3 years might not look like much.

smackdaddy 07-05-2013 11:14 AM

It was needed.

MeestaDeteta 07-05-2013 11:14 AM

Not sure about this one. He's not a big body, and he's already 34.

This is true.

DousedInOil 07-05-2013 11:14 AM

3.2M is a steal!! Love this deal. :)

Ice Whole 07-05-2013 11:14 AM

Love it. Not only does he improve our defence with his play, he is a great leader that you want to have in the room.

Ol' Jase 07-05-2013 11:14 AM

No issues with this at all, will see where he fits in.

Hometown guy coming home, strong reputation as a solid room guy, and has played on a winner for the last few years.

InUtero 07-05-2013 11:14 AM

Really like the signing

nabob 07-05-2013 11:14 AM

one year too long. But to get a UFA in a group of slim pickings its worth it.

Joey Moss 07-05-2013 11:14 AM

I love Ference but 4 years seems a bit much.

Arpeggio 07-05-2013 11:15 AM

I'm beyond caring about cap hits and terms, I just want to see a better team next season. Hopefully they aren't done for the day. Good move to bring in a top-4 guy who has playoff experience.

Also could be a potential partner for Klefbom/Belov/whatever rookie defenceman the Oilers plug in.

Cerebral 07-05-2013 11:15 AM

Awesome move! I would rather have three years but the lower cap hit makes up for it. I was expecting $4M so this is a good deal in my view. Ference was a top 4 guy on two Stanley Cup finalists - he's a warrior!

cyril* 07-05-2013 11:15 AM

"Holy! We have a lot of defensemen!"

Insta 07-05-2013 11:15 AM

4 years is long for 34 year old but with how sad the Oilers D is, they need to try and do what they can to improve it.

BDG 07-05-2013 11:15 AM

Everyone on TSN likes the move, therefore I like it too!

We need tough D-men with experience, this fills both needs. I like it!

Comrade Blunderbore 07-05-2013 11:15 AM

i predict unrest over the fact he is 5'10"

McRib 07-05-2013 11:15 AM

About his age... meh.

This team needs more vets that have jam. We now have one on defense.

thadd 07-05-2013 11:15 AM

Great signing. He's a reliable 2nd pairing guy. Great partner for Justin Schultz!

Tad Mikowsky 07-05-2013 11:15 AM

Yep. Good signing right there.
