1957 Dink Carroll Column, 30 Game Review
A review of the NHL season approximatley 30 games in. Each of the six teams is critiqued. Interesting comments about the Leafs under Billy Reay. No mention of Bobby Hull with the Hawks.

Ya this is a really interesting period for the Leafs, the revolving door in the Coaching office still twirling a bit what with Howie Meeker etc come & gone, the core of the team that enjoyed so much success through the 60's, from St. Mikes & the Marlies coming of age. Then along comes Staff Sgt Punch Imlach, system play & defence first, boring albeit successful hockey follows. The creative, talented players, Brewer, Mahovlich, Walton & others bridling under the bit. Playing not much fun anymore, a "job" and not one many of them ever really enjoyed as difficult as that is to fathom, being payed to play professionally, the dream however turning into a nightmare. Thing is, the Leafs had the talent, skill & speed to play it wide open against Chicago & Montreal while being responsible defensively. A real shame the Mustangs werent allowed to run free, giving their heads. Instead, Imlach had to break them.
