Quote:

St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Monday the club has acquired forward Pat Cannone from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for future considerations.

Cannone, 26, dressed in 74 games for the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Binghamton Senators last season, registering 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists) to go along with 41 penalty minutes.

Overall, the 5-foot-11, 192-pound forward has appeared in 152 career AHL games over three seasons with Binghamton (2010-2013), totaling 70 points (30 goals, 40 assists) and 75 penalty minutes.

The Bayport, New York native was originally signed by Ottawa as a free agent on April 8, 2011.

AHLer, scores goals in the crease, average skater, average shooter, average checker, plays "sort of" gritty. Nothing stands out much in his game but he does nothing bad either. I would expect he is coming in to help your farm team.

i never understood what future considerations were, are they basically useless ?

Chip Chipperson 07-08-2013 06:07 PM

St. Louis got absolutely robbed here. Great trade.

Vladys Gumption 07-08-2013 06:07 PM

Who?

Oberyn 07-08-2013 06:08 PM

The last missing piece for us, looks like we're a lock for the Stanley Cup now.

Future considerations are just that...future considerations.

Next time Armstrong meets Murray he has to buy him a coffee and a bagel.

As long as it's Tim Horton's and not Starbucks. Let's not start slinging around money here.

Murray has a habit of signing free agent prospects throughout the year so this clears a contract spot. Based on the RFA qualifications, Ottawa has filled 48/50 contract spots, so it's very tight.

The trade also clears a roster spot in Bingo for one of the prospects, it's getting very crowded down there for next season.

"Future considerations" is a fancy way of saying absolutely nothing. It's a placeholder for a zero return.

In the past there may have turned into actual returns, but that's no longer the case.

In its current form, because a player can't officially be traded for nothing, they say "future considerations" instead.

I'm not sure if it's still the case, but it used to be that "future considerations" was used officially as a part of trades when a conditional didn't materialize. So if Player A was traded for Player B and a conditional 7th, but the conditional didn't take place, it would have eventually gone in the books as Player A for Player B and future considerations. But I'm not sure they do that anymore (unless of course, it's the sole asset on one side of the trade), and they really shouldn't, because it's pointless.

Who knows, this deal could be a spinoff of the Bishop trade. Maybe Ottawa agreed to send St. Louis a minor leaguer later in the year.

Chet Donnelly 07-08-2013 06:24 PM

Good.

SpezDispenser 07-08-2013 06:25 PM

Boo. He's a solid AHL player who may have a future as a 4th liner. I liked his game a lot from what I saw via stream.

Again...boo.

Jaromir Jagrbombs 07-08-2013 06:27 PM

Great trade, Future Considerations looks like he's gonna be a stud. Hopefully he can come in and contribute right away.

MAK19 07-08-2013 06:28 PM

About time. He's ancient.
