OKC Barons 2013/14

The Barons will be flooded with youth this year with players including Travis Ewanyk, Martin Gernat, David Musil, Kale Kessy, and Oscar Klefbom. This makes the role of Acton and Hamilton, along with the vets that are, and will be assigned to the Barons that much more important. It's likely that a couple young guys start out in Stockton but out of all of the guys coming in who do you want to see take a big step? Personally I think Travis Ewanyk has the potential to be a 3rd or 4th line center, along with a large leadership role. So these aren't what the line combos will be but here is a list players that are set to play for the OKC Barons.

Rajala-Arcobello-Pitlick
C Hamilton-Acton-R Hamilton
Ewanyk-Martindale-Kessy
______-Miller-Abney

The blank spot represents the possible player\s that could come down. I see it being between Eager, Lander, or Joensuu.

Klefbom-Marincin
Musil-Gernat
Hunt-Davidon
(Potter, Larsen, or Belov)

A lot of LHD, but Todd Nelson should make it work. I could see both Musil and Gernat getting ECHL time.

Bachman
Roy

Not sure if Tuohimaa is playing in Europe next year, but if not he and Bunz should be ECHL locks. Bunz will be the main call up.

SterlingArcher 07-09-2013 07:50 PM

I believe the oilers camp really wants Ewanyk to go back to juniors for ne year and really develop his offensive game. I understand that Ewanyk would rather be in OKC but being on the first or second line of the oil kings could really help him with some PP time as well. I also believe joensuu might be are extra forward so their could be more spots open their.

It would be good for him to go back to juniors if he is on the 2nd line. I couldn't see how another year on the 3rd line in the dub would help.

Paralyzer008 07-09-2013 08:06 PM

Hamilton-Arcobello-Rajala
Eager-Lander-Miller
C.Hamilton-Pitlick-Kessy
Martindale-Acton-Abney

Kind of looking at this from a forward perspective.

voxel 07-09-2013 08:08 PM

OKC always has 3-4 injuries so I think the forwards will be fine. I think the lines will be

(the last two lines are fugly even for the AHL - not going to win a Calder Cup with it)
Rajala-Arcobello-R Hamilton
Acton-Lander-Pitlick
Eager-Martindale-Kessy
Ewanyk/C.Hamilton-Miller-Abney

I'm much higher on Davidson than Gernat and Musil and think he might play in the top 2 pairings, but I haven't seen him in a year so my projections of him could be far off.

Lander as 4th line LW????? In OKC???
Joensuu has just been signed to a 1 way $1M deal and you think he could start on the 4th line in OKC??

Belov/Larson/Potter as 7/8/9 dmen in OKC??

FAIL

If you didn't mean these as line combos why list them as line combos?

SephF 07-09-2013 09:29 PM

I think we'll see quite a few guys head to Stockton to start the year

Lander is one of OKC's best players and most likely starts the year with the Oilers. Why would he be on the 4th line?

thadd 07-10-2013 07:45 AM

It wouldn't be horrible of Musil and Gernat started the year in the AHL. Klefbom and Marincin should be a sweet pairing, but I'd like to see Marcin and Gernat back together sometime next year. Maybe we've gotta wait for an injury.

DousedInOil 07-10-2013 08:11 AM

Isn't Fedun coming back?

Klefbom-Fedun
Marincin-Davidson
Gernat-Hunt
Musil-Leach

Lizon and Stretch are missing from people's forward groups.

DousedInOil 07-10-2013 08:15 AM

Any news on Moffie and Gustaffson?

Jimmi Jenkins 07-10-2013 08:24 AM

I don't see Belov in the AHL, unless he's just brutal in camp or during the season. I understand for him, you don't sign as a UFA to go start in the AHL. Some may not like it, but he'll get an NHL shot off the bat, imo. (Unless he's Brutal in camp)

bewbies 07-10-2013 09:12 AM

Some of these lineups that are being suggested would get absolutely wrecked in the AHL. Giving big minutes to 6 or 7 rookies (or any minutes at all to Cameron Abney) is not a winning strategy.

I think the Barons lines will look something like this:

Ryan Hamilton / Mark Arcobello / Toni Rajala
CJ Stretch / Andrew Miller / Tyler Pitlick
Antti Tyrvainen / Ryan Martindale / Ben Eager
Curtis Hamilton / Veteran to be signed / Wil Acton
Lizon / ?

Fedun / Veteran (Potter?)
Marincin / Davidson
Klefbom / Veteran

Bachmann
Roy

Not sure who the 14th forward or the 7th D will be. I think it is very important to get a quality veteran RW to play on the top line. A guy like Brandon Segal or Jamie Tardif would fit the bill. Would also REALLY like to see at least one more veteran defenseman on the roster. Randy Jones would be great if he'd consider coming back.

edit - I forgot about Ryan Hamilton! He's perfect!

Petro Points 07-10-2013 09:27 AM

Didnt we sign Leach (D).. I am guessing he'll have a roster spot

I would think we will have Gernat and Marincin paired up ..It wouldnt be the top pairing since Gernat is far from ready for that job.

Klefbom-Larsen (I believe both can communicate in Swedish)
Davidson-Fedun
Marincin-Gernat (twin towers)
Leach\Hunt

Musil in ECHL playing bigger minutes.

Comrade Blunderbore 07-10-2013 12:10 PM

you guys will really rant and whine about everything.

what on earth is the use in having a farm club if not for giving your youth big minutes?

also Belov and Joensuu will not sniff a single minute of Barons time this coming season.

Delicious Pancakes 07-10-2013 12:26 PM

This is what the depth chart looks like. Stretch, Lizon, and Leach are all signed to AHL contracts. Lizon is an AHL/ECHL tweener who fights is probably more of a 13th forward. Barring some miracle development Abney belongs back in Stockton. Clearly the team needs at least one, probably two forwards, one of whom might be Eager if they send him down again. Also Fedun is the only RD and he's not signed yet.

R. Hamilton / Arcobello / Rajala
Stretch / Miller / Pitlick
C. Hamilton / Acton / Lizon
Kessy / Martindale / Abney

Klefbom / Fedun
Marincin / Davidson
Musil / Hunt
Gernat / Leach

Bachman
Roy
Bunz

I'm predicting a rough couple years for the OKC Barons. I think Oilers management is going to focus less on winning and more on developing our prospects. For this reason I could see Nelson walking soon as well.

Is Tyrvainen coming back? Thought he signed overseas somewhere.

okgooil 07-10-2013 12:30 PM

I am actually really interested to see what Bachman does. He has been very good in the AHL before. He is a sleeper, but I think he could actually be our goalie of the future. Clearly Labarbera is just a 1 year back up, of the group Roy, Bunz, Dubs and Bachman, I wouldh't be surprised if Bachman ended up the best.

I would be surprised. Bachman is an adequate AHL goalie IMO, but his size will really limit his opportunity at the NHL level. In today's NHL, most goalies are 6'0" plus.

If Klefbom is in OKC he will be getting big minutes I think. Doubtful he is on the 3rd pairing.

Tyrvainen signed with Jokerit in Finland to play with his brother Juhani I thought, it was announced day after we were eliminated. So unless something falls through and he has a change of heart he won't be back. Hopefully Kessy can be an adequate replacement of the feisty Fin.

I believe he's playing another year at Michigan. Should get some quality ice time with Merrill and Trouba turning pro.

Another year in the NCAA and Gustaffson signed for two more years in SEL.

Bewbies care to weigh in on Perron acquisition ?
