Re-signing Derek Stepan

Are we going to lose Stepan because we have no money left?

Calad 07-10-2013 10:06 PM

No, we won't lose him. We will make room and shed some other contracts before we ever consider losing stepan

Ih8theislanders 07-10-2013 10:06 PM

Yes. No.

JohnC 07-10-2013 10:06 PM

No

Yes.

slipknottin 07-10-2013 10:12 PM

Rangers are tired of his production and won't resign him.

nyrleetch 07-10-2013 10:15 PM

Only if he stops liking glee.

Lundsanity30 07-10-2013 10:19 PM

its not the brightest thing to do but the Rangers can go like 6M or something over the cap for the Summer and then figure out a way to get under it by the time the season starts. So we have plenty of money for Stepan

Riverdale 07-10-2013 10:26 PM

Don't worry. Step will be re-signed.

BlessThisMess513 07-10-2013 10:29 PM

Rangers don't like players that are balding/bald, so I don't think he's gonna be coming back. Look at what they did with poor Messier.

Lundsanity30 07-10-2013 10:32 PM

Here's a question... what Ranger RFA has Sather/Gorton ever not signed that they wanted to keep?

Kershaw 07-10-2013 10:42 PM

cmon cut the guy some slack, maybe he is a casual fan joining the board.

And to the OP, yes I have no doubt in my mind that Derek Stepan will be a Ranger for now and the long term.

Welcome to the boards.

Lerb 07-10-2013 10:43 PM

Let's be nice children. Hypocritically, I'm saying this after trying out 29 snarky sarcastic remarks and finding none of them to be funny enough to post.

Kershaw and I are on the same page! What do I get?

Lundsanity30 07-10-2013 10:43 PM

There HAS to be a team out there that wants 3 bottom 6 forwards and a #3 capable defensemen for a 60 point left winger.....

Rangers Fail 07-10-2013 10:46 PM

No, he is not in our plans and depth defenseman Justin Falk was clearly more important.

we couldn't have fit him, but I would have taken a chance on Perron.

Stepanformayor* 07-10-2013 10:52 PM

Sather's on thin ice with me already.. Mr Egomaniac hasn't done anything or proved he knows what he's doing for 25 years so if/when he decides to wake from his slumber I sure hope he does the right thing and signs the young man.. I still can't believe you wait till the very end to sign the most important piece to the puzzle..I'm pretty sure, knowing Glen he thinks he's smarter than rest of us ..My theory is... You F ..Around... F around.. Pretty soon you won't be around.. IMO you need to get Stepan signed and you better do it soon cause the recent past shows Sather's better at Eff'n things up than he is at building a winner..

Jabroni 07-10-2013 10:52 PM

Absolutely. He's part of the core and potentially our future number one center.

Gorton is the one who crunches all the numbers and budgets the contracts for RFAs now.. Also, the Rangers have been quite good with RFAs for a long while now. Stepan will be signed.

Ian 07-10-2013 10:55 PM

OP is Glen Sather, that's how removed from the process he is now.

it may just be me, but I believe a package of Del zotto + Boyle + 2014 pick (not 1st round), could bring back something pretty good. top defenseman, useful 3/4c and a draft pick or prospect. wonder what kind of return that could bring.

We'd have to dramatically overpay to make room.

DZ's good, but calling him a top paring D man should really only be refering to an AHL team. He's a 2nd paring guy, pure as they come.

Ideally, someone like Patrick Marleau for DZ, Boyle, prospect, pick at the deadline. Marleau has a NMC, and a NASTY cap hit, along with being 33. It could never happen.
