Gustav Nyquist Offer Sheet

Let me start this thread off by saying there is a 99 percent chance that the Hawks won't do anything with their current roster before the season other than maybe flipping Brookbank or Carcillo for a pick.

I trust every move Stan Bowman makes. He's a stud. You may ask what made me think of this. The below tweet from CapGeek did.

#NHL #RedWings down to just $1M in cap space after Brendan Smith re-signing. Andersson, Nyquist are RFAs. http://www.capgeek.com/redwings/
What could the Hawks use? A top-six center. Pirri has paid his dues. He is probably out second line's center between Sharp and Hossa at this current juncture. However, Nyquist is going to be very, very good.

I'd sign Nyquist for three years. A $1,682,194 AAV and below means a third-round pick of compensation. One dollar more and up to a $3,364,391 AAV means a second-round pick.

One idea:

My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Bryan Bickell ($4.000m) / Jonathan Toews ($6.300m) / Patrick Kane ($6.300m)
Patrick Sharp ($5.900m) / Gustav Nyquist ($1.600m) / Marian Hossa ($5.275m)
Brandon Saad ($0.894m) / Andrew Shaw ($0.578m) / Jeremy Morin ($0.887m)
Marcus Kruger ($1.325m) / Michal Handzus ($1.000m) / Ben Smith ($0.563m)
Daniel Carcillo ($0.825m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Brent Seabrook ($5.800m) / Duncan Keith ($5.538m)
Niklas Hjalmarsson ($3.500m) / Johnny Oduya ($3.383m)
Nick Leddy ($2.700m) / Michal Rozsival ($2.200m)
Ryan Stanton ($0.578m) /
GOALTENDERS
Corey Crawford ($2.667m)
Nikolai Khabibulin ($2.000m)
------

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,811,795; BONUSES: $467,500
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $955,705

There is room to give him around a $2 million AAV and make it even tougher on Detroit.

I'm confident in the team going into the season. I think Nyquist would be a great addition to our club. That's all. Nothing's probably going to happen.

They'll just dump someone or use their last compliance buyout. An interesting idea for sure, but you need to make it like 3M at minimum to cause them any real trouble.

Detroit would surely trade someone/anyone if Nyquist signed an offersheet for $1.6 mil

It'd be fun to force their hand.

:)

Even without an offer sheet, they're going to have to try to do something. No one made Ken Holland sign Jordan Tootoo to a $1.9M AAV for three seasons.

Gootie 07-15-2013 03:43 PM

Doing this would be the final kick in the nuts to Pirri and others waiting for a chance. We have to sign Hjalmarsson and a goalie next year and then Toews-Kane the year after. No sense in paying extra $ and picks for Nyquist when we've got plenty of our own young guys itching for a chance to play.

digdug41982 07-15-2013 03:44 PM

Any rumors on what Nyquist is looking for in his new contract?

I think Pirri will do fine as a top-six center. I have no idea if I'm in the majority or the minority. What I do believe, though, is that Nyquist would be better.

Hey, I'm bored. There's nothing to talk about. Prospect has come and gone, the season's been over for a couple weeks now, and I'm looking for something to talk about.

Cullksinikers 07-15-2013 03:51 PM

I think Kane and Toews will each get an $8M AAV. If the cap goes to $70 million, you have $5.7M of extra space to give. Toews and Kane would only cost $3.4M per year. Hammer will cost another million or slightly more. You also save money in other areas like $600K from moving from Khabibulin to Raanta that you can use to assist with Crawford's deal.

Nothing's going to happen, but I'd say it's an interesting idea.

slappipappi 07-15-2013 05:23 PM

Detroit matches that easy. And doesn't even blink.

Kaners BAC 07-15-2013 09:05 PM

Is Nyquist even a true center? I thought he was more of a winger.

Also, he'll turn 24 this fall. How many elite, 5-11 185 finesse players don't play their rookie season till they're 24? I think he'll have a nice career but I don't think he has that high of a ceiling.

RomersWorld* 07-15-2013 09:16 PM

He is a winger hasn't played center since Maine.

Holland already said he'd match any offer sheet and the one suggested in OP is not close to enough to force their hand. They say "ok" in like 2 seconds. The highest 2nd round compensation...maybe.

Hawkaholic 07-15-2013 09:25 PM

Ya, easy to dump a player by putting them on waivers when the season starts. Its not worth it to sign him to a contract DET wouldn't match.

Bubba88 07-16-2013 06:49 AM

they'd match that without any problems

Behn Wilson 07-16-2013 04:01 PM

Not a chance they offer sheet Nyquist.

I stated that a few times in the OP. It was just a fun idea/proposal.

Dakkster 07-16-2013 10:03 PM

Nyquist is a winger, not a center. He played a smidge of center in college, but mostly on the wing (both LW and RW) and in the pros he's been exclusively on the wing.
