ESPY Best NHL Player

Can you believe that ESPN does not have 1 Blackhawk nominated for best NHL player at the ESPY's? Instead they have Crosby, Ovi, Tavares, Lundquist and St. Louis. I find that absolutely unacceptable. Toews or Kane should have been up for it. 1 of those players nominated made it past the 2nd round. ESPN is a joke and spends 90% of their time talking about Lebron and Tom Brady, so I don't know why I am upset.

Chicago isn't in the US, why would ESPN care?

Considering it's ESPN, I'm not surprised Toews isn't there...I *am* surprised that Kane isn't there and St. Louis is.

Agreed. I've seen a Stanley Cup game not be the lead story. All the good Sportscenter anchors have left the network or gone to their own show or a specific sport. It's not ESPN anymore, it's Disney Sports promoting Disney Sports.

ReLyT 07-16-2013 12:27 AM

Its ESPN... why are you surprised... not like the Espy's mean anything anyways.

Chris Hansen 07-16-2013 12:34 AM

Tavares :laugh::laugh::laugh:

But anyway, it's just ESPN.

Sir Psycho T 07-16-2013 05:55 AM

Who cares. The ESPYs are one of the most meaningless things ever, quick who was the hockey player of the year last year?

Exactly no one knows because it doesn't matter. The Hawks won the only trophy in the NHL that matters and the only one that people really remember. Let Ovie and Crosby fight scraps the Hawks left in their trail.

Bubba88 07-16-2013 06:54 AM

Who cares about ESPN :laugh:

Kaner Coffee 07-16-2013 06:57 AM

The Hawks don't have anyone better than Crosby so it doesn't matter.

No Fun Shogun 07-16-2013 10:14 AM

It'll be Crosby or Ovechkin that win it, almost assuredly Crosby, so not that it really matters who else gets nominated.

Lundqvist and Tavares getting nods isn't too surprising, given that they play in New York, though color me a tad surprised at St. Louis getting any notice this year from ESPN.

Marina 07-16-2013 11:39 AM

Well now I understand why Tavares is winning that ridiculous poll on the main board - if ESPN says something about hockey it must be true.

I feel bad for Americans who love hockey. The lack of coverage must be insufferable.

Hardly. Anyone with a brain can find NHL Network. The internet is the same one you have up there, and the local media now gives a ****.

I have UVerse so no NHL network, I'm stuck with NBCSN or CSN Chicago for my hockey fix. It sucks that NBC is covering the Tour De France so much

The availability of the NHL Network and the option to get Center Ice are literally the only two things I like about Xfinity over Uverse so far, not going to lie.

DisgruntledHawkFan 07-16-2013 12:52 PM

NHL Network is reason enough for me to stay with DirectTV

Obviously, but that wasn't my point.

In Canada, we have nation-wide hockey coverage pretty much year-round. Every sports network starts the hockey and talks about hockey all the time.

Meanwhile, by the sounds of it, you'd be lucky for a 30-second highlight pack during the Cup playoffs when the NBA playoffs/Finals are on from ESPN in the States.

You make it sound like ESPN is the only channel that I could ever tune to for hockey highlights.

Absolutely. Thanks, I guess. I know what you guys and what we have and god damn, it isn't even in the same universe.

No, but isn't it the equivalent of TSN in the States? That would suck pretty bad if TSN just stopped giving a damn about hockey in Canada.

digdug41982 07-16-2013 02:24 PM

Yeah, ESPN with a extensive hockey coverage plus NHL network would actually be pretty good.

Let's look at it in the terms of your analogy, though.

If

TSN=ESPN

Then

hockey=football

So, TSN stopping hockey coverage would be equal to ESPN no longer covering football. Neither would ever happen, as each are their country's biggest thing.

But then they'd ruin it by having Chris Berman inexplicably involved.

LOL, yeah, that would ruin it. Has to be one of the most unfunny people who tries so hard to be funny, reminds me a lot of Belushi.

It's not really the same at all though. I can only go off what I hear, but it sounds like, on a good day, hockey gets maybe 2 minutes of on-air time/coverage during a broadcast of ESPN.

In Canada, on TSN, hockey gets the most coverage but basketball, football and baseball all get more than their fair share of coverage/on-air time.
