Henrik & Daniel Sedin's Next Contracts

Slow day and no one posted this so I figured let's throw it up for discussion -

Gillis says he will revisit the Sedin's contract situation with them once they get back from Sweden. He wants them here for a long time

They both turn 33 this coming September. Last deal for both was 5 years - $30.5 million (6.1 AAV).

Burnaby_Joe* 07-24-2013 11:52 AM

I'm guessing between 5-6.5 million a year!

le_sean 07-24-2013 11:57 AM

I'd say the same as the previous contract.

Flair Hay 07-24-2013 11:58 AM

If they could get them to dip down to the $5.75 level for two years both sides should be happy. They definitely won't HAVE to take a paycut though.

I guess I'm one of the few/only people who think they're gonna take paycuts for the betterment of the team

I had 4.5-5.0 per x 4-5 years.

Djp 07-24-2013 11:59 AM

If they were smart they would say we will resign for less only if you add talent to the team...get them to sign for $3.5-$4.0M and then the team can actually go out and sign a player like Vanek

Nuckles 07-24-2013 12:03 PM

My guess is 3 years, $6.25M per. I believe they said they want to finish their careers in Sweden, so I don't see them re-signing for 5 years since they'll be 34 when the new contract kicks in.

The Produce Man 07-24-2013 12:15 PM

I can't see them making or honestly, even asking for more money then their current cap hits. 2-3 year deal around $5.5-$6m would be my guess.

You're out to lunch if you think they come that cheap.

This is likely the last contract they get in the NHL, and you think they're going to take a pay cut...?

On the bright side, at least their agent isn't Don Meehan.

They are both good for around a PPG.

That would put them in the 7-8M range if they wanted on the open market.

If they sign for less than 7M that is a hometown discount.

It's too bad they won't, and that's coming from a Flames fan. I understand that the game of hockey is their professional life, it's how they make a living. However, if the twins were to have contracts such as a sub 5m AAV over 5 years, that would help their team greatly on the whole in their future successes, especially since they will start declining (albeit slowly due to style of play) within the next two seasons.

That being said, it's like saying "Hey Crosby, sign for 4 million dollars less and your team will be even better" but it won't happen.

TylerSVT* 07-24-2013 12:48 PM

Around 6M AAV would be where i see it. 6M for 3 years, would be sweet.

DL44 07-24-2013 12:49 PM

3 yr $18 mil each.
$6.5, $6, $5.5

They have over performed every contract. Cap is going up. Market is up.
$6mil per is deserved and fair..

I would decrease cap hit by 250K for every additional yr up to 5 a yr max. (6 for 3, 5.75 for 4, 5.5 for 5)
They have been and are franchise players.
Would love nothing more than to see them finish their careers in Vancouver.

Shane Doan got 5.3 for 4 years at the age of 35, supposedly for the betterment of his team. Sedins are much better players, and also younger so a discount for them would be 6.5-7.

EbonyRaptor 07-24-2013 12:49 PM

The twins are going to sign a 1-year contract at the league minimum with the Blackhawks for a chance to win the Cup. :sarcasm:

Just kidding ...

Although it would be a sweet top-9:

Sharp-Toews-Kane
Sedin-Sedin-Hossa
Saad-Shaw-Bickell

Must be why you guys got rid of Bolland. It all makes sense now!!!

K2B 07-24-2013 12:57 PM

With comparable players like Getzlaf, Perry, E.Staal and Spezza all getting north of 7 Million, I'd be very happy if we were able to sign them for under 6.5.

TOML 07-24-2013 12:58 PM

TO will likely be involved.

Nonis on a flight to Sweden?

Lukus 07-24-2013 01:02 PM

I agree that they won't be asking for alot more then they are making now. They're dealing from a disavantage since they come as a package. What team could take on $12-14M in salary just like that? Not to mention they probably like it in VAN and they'd probably go back to Sweden before playing anywhere else in the NHL.

Yeah.. the more and more i think about it and look at the contracts going around... the more i think i've under valued their worth... even despite the fact they are a package deal...

7 for 3 with a decrease of 500K for every additional yr up to 6..
6.5 for 4
6 for 5
5.5 for 6

That seems more inline with the Market and what they deserve.

The package deal aspect/factor may bring them back inline with my original post... but somewhere in there seems about right.

Weird to hear a Sens fan say that this summer.

StringerBell 07-24-2013 01:07 PM

They're on record saying they only want one year deals from here on out. I don't necessarily think they'll sign one, but I'll be surprised if they sign anything longer than three years. I'm guessing they'll be around the same cap hit, too.

Ched Brosky 07-24-2013 01:17 PM

Depends on the cap. I see them signing a 2-4 year deal each. If its under 68M I can see then both signing 2 years 6M per. Between 68-72M I see them signing 3 years 6.25-6.5M. 72+ 4 years 6.75-7M
