Lars Eller for Steve Downie

Ellar would give Colorado some scoring depth on the wing.he also can fill in at center till the big guns come in.Downie will add much need grit up front for the habs:handclap::handclap::handclap::handclap:

As a fan of neither team...the Avs have to add

Asif16* 07-29-2013 12:20 PM

The habs would lose this trade

sharks9 07-29-2013 12:20 PM

No way from the Habs.

HABSFTW 07-29-2013 12:24 PM

Are we trying to get smaller or something?

Either way.. Eller is a building block for us, and broke out last year mostly playing on the 3rd line. He's not for sale.

Dr Gonzo 07-29-2013 12:25 PM

A Habs fan is suggesting this trade?

...

BlueDream 07-29-2013 12:28 PM

Not only is this trade bad for Montreal, why would Colorado need another center...?

BigDaddyLurch 07-29-2013 12:29 PM

R U serious??...you sure you're a Habs fan??...horrific proposal, amigo...:badidea:

Erik Estrada 07-29-2013 12:29 PM

Habs would be one crucial step closer to being the first NHL team since 1927, to have a Top-9 with no player above 5'11...

Pierce Hawthorne 07-29-2013 12:29 PM

Easy no from the Avs.

Downie hold a tonne of value to us. a Top 6 guy who brings in the grittiness that he brings is a rare thing to find. Without him in our lineup last year our Top 6 was pretty soft.

We also really have no need for another Center(Even if Eller can play wing as well).

All our "big gun" C's are already brought in and playing, so that comment makes zero sense.

Agreed Habs get bent over. They could definitely use some sandpaper in the forward group but this is an overpay imo..

First its Eller not Ellar.... why would Montreal trade the best 3rd line center in the NHL for a guy like Downie? make no sense at all from MTL POV

junyab 07-29-2013 12:32 PM

1. Eller is not needed in Colorado...they need D.
2. Eller is LOADS better and more valuable then Downie.

When you have 1967 in your user name, you're a closeted Leafs fan.

Lol what?

Have you seen our center depth?

Prairie Prince 07-29-2013 12:39 PM

So many people over emphasize the fact that MTL needs bigger tougher guys. Every team has a plan on how their team is built. MTL doesn't NEED to add size and grit, if they are successful building the team like they have then why change it? They don't need to change their whole team philosophy to win.

tucker3434 07-29-2013 12:39 PM

A guy like downie is more valuable to the avs than a guy like eller, but I think I'd have to do this deal if only to flip eller to someone else for defense.

It'd push Stastny to the fourth line where he would be more comfortable playing with the type of winger he's more used to. We would need to add one of our surplus defensemen, but it'd be worth it.

They do if they want to get past Boston.

um... check previous years. we've beaten Boston many times.

AND with smaller teams.

Domino11 07-29-2013 01:24 PM

This is one of the worst trade I've ever seen .... Why not giving them galchenyuk as well !!

Quares27 07-29-2013 01:25 PM

A small pest to the Habs? ya that's what they need. I don't think they instigated enough fights this season lol

Bordeleau Of Blood 07-29-2013 01:26 PM

Pass. We'll keep Downie, thanks. We're sure as hell not giving him up for another center.

Boston haven't been a problem for the Habs. We do fine against them in the regular season and were one bounce away from beating them the year they won the cup. The Habs true weakness is constantly losing to non-playoff and lower seeded teams. We just don't bring it vs non-contenders.
