Find a player with 100+ NHL games, no-one has ever heard of

I'll start with:

Radovan Somik

Slovakian player. Played 2 seasons with the Flyers in the early 2000s. Had a grand total of 12 goals, 32 points in 113 NHL regular season games.

BTW, the topic title shouldn't be taken literally. I just want to find some interesting lesser known players. Yes, it's one of those off season topics.

What the Faulk 07-31-2013 03:12 PM

Steve Halko played 155 games for the Hurricanes and never scored a goal.

Cool idea. I offer up Jeff Giuliano and Jason Krog.

While obviously not well known - Krog at least was a AHL allstar. Hired gun that AHL teams that signed.

Krog is one of the more dominant AHLers in recent memory, will be a familiar name because of that.

Some people probably remember him but Petr Tenkrat was an unknown legend for the Bruins.

NYR94 07-31-2013 03:20 PM

Jarno Kultanen
Jaroslav Bednar

Krog has played over 200 games for 5 different teams, he's not exactly "unheard of"...

Lasse Pirjeta was drafted in 2002 and played 146 games.
Jaroslav Bedner was a 2nd rounder in 2001 and played 102 games.

Has anyone ever heard of Jarno Kultanen? Drafted in the year 2000 and played 102 games.

Joey Banana 07-31-2013 03:22 PM

Ulrich Hiemer.

Even most german fans don't know he played 3 seasons in the NHL.

Inkling 07-31-2013 03:24 PM

Fun topic.

I nominate Serge Payer.

I try to follow the Senators pretty closely but every so often I'll be reading something and will end up saying to myself "did that guy play for the Senators? I barely remember that!".

Anyway Serge played 124 games for the Sens and Panthers. Panther fans probably might have a better chance of remembering him.

Shawn Antoski LW

He scored 3+5 in 183 games. drafted 18 overall

Fun fact. He was once the NHL leader in points!

After 1 game, he had 0+3, 3 points along with two of his Boston teammates. IIRC Joe Thornton and Samsonov, who had 2+1 and 1+2 or something like that.

Not to mention Krog won the Hobey Baker in college.

I played with and against Giuliano through high school so I know him, but he's a good pick. Not a lot of people probably have a clue who he is.

Take a look at this Bruins roster from '05...just filled with these kinds of guys. Dan Lacouture, Erik Nickalus, Ben Guite, KHL legend Kevin Dallman, etc. Just such a horrible team to watch. I remember watching a guy named Pat Leahy getting legit minutes, which was sort of a microcosm for everything that was wrong with the Bruins at this time.

In the last thread, half the people hadn't heard of Radek Dvorak, and you all have heard of Jason Krog  Let's see...I take down Krog and replace him with Nolan Baumgartner. Unless you remember the 1995 World Juniors or you're a Moose fan, you probably don't know him.

I remember him as one of the two players selected with the 1st rounders the Flyers traded to the Nordiques in the Lindros deal. (The other was Jocelyn Thibeault.)

DaveG 07-31-2013 03:57 PM

I nominate Hubie McDonough

Woohoo, Canucks scouting strikes again with this gem.

Plus he now plays in the Swedish league so most Swedes are familiar with him

Paulie Walnutz 07-31-2013 04:20 PM

Rico Fata, drafted 6th overall by Calgary in 1998. Bounced around the league, now playing overseas. Played 230 games, 63 points

Hadn't heard of a lot of guys in this thread, but I've definitely heard of Rico Fata.

He was a top-10 pick and played for 6 NHL teams, not to mention a long career in the minors. There are probably a lot of people who recognize his name but couldn't tell you much about him.

drmagg 07-31-2013 04:27 PM

Find a player with 500+ NHL games, no-one has ever heard of would be funnier or at least 200+ games
