Buffalo Bills: Regular Season Begins!

Sirius XM had set up at SJFC today. Three hours of heavenly coverage. Amazing

Tim Murray 07-31-2013 03:56 PM

Loved the presser today with Mario. While I'm not his biggest fan, he bascially laughed off the Buffalo media like the clowns they are.

Geeze, Marrone and his boys have been cranky thus far and its only 3 days of camp. Who pissed Marrone off on Tuesday? Sullivan? LOL

SFTC Addict 08-01-2013 04:13 AM

Woods got in a fight yesterday with some scrub CB who probably wont even make the team!

Geeze this team has attitude thus far and its just the beginning of camp, I don't like it....I LOVE IT!

Crezdon Butler might not be a name player but I wouldn't be calling him a scrub. If he was against Woods I would imagine he is higher on the depth chart then you would expect. He's not guaranteed a roster spot or a starting role, but he's an NFL player.

msm29 08-01-2013 01:28 PM

From a media standpoint, I hate how Marrone handled himself, particularly with Wawrow (who is a pro). From a fan standpoint, I love it. He's building an aura of "us against the world." We've got a coach with a backbone for the first time since...Gregg Williams?

Stevie down with what looks like a hamstring injury. :shakehead

It is a hammy. Hope Woods and Rogers are the real deal.

He was walking on it, albeit a bit gingerly. I think he'll be alright.

SFTC Addict 08-02-2013 10:36 PM

Lol hasn't he been hurt before with that hammy?

ChibiPooky 08-03-2013 12:34 AM

According to media, it's a strain. No idea about past injuries.

msm29 08-03-2013 12:39 AM

He either had a hammy or a groin last year and still ended up with 1,000 yards, so I'm not ready to worry yet.

Still, it raises the question: looking at the Bills' roster, taking into account depth and the next man who'd step in, is there any more valuable player to the team than Stevie?

CJ x2093....Fred is not the same back he used to be, and I don't think he'd be able to carry a load by himself this year.

Stephon Gilmore

We have a gone of talent at WR, even if the depth is very raw.

Our CB depth is straight up scary behind Gilmore.

We'll see, but I have more faith in Fred than most. I think it will be vitally important to use that tandem the right way. Spiller is not a 25 rush per game back, and never will be. Somehow find a way to use Jackson to open things up more for Spiller.

That's not right at all.

Are you Chan Gailey?

Afino 08-03-2013 10:17 AM

....did Kolb really just hurt himself WALKING OUT TO THE FIELD? Am I reading that right?

Good point. As excited as I am about Manuel, I still can't believe they passed on Milliner.

I think a 20-10 Spiller/Jackson split would be decent. Spiller's yds/rush average from last year is unsustainable if he's carrying the full load.

Freddy is still a better inside runner than Spiller. Spiller is much, much better in space.

Quite frankly, the Bills should find ways to get them both on the field at the same time. Gailey should have done that, but he's Gailey, so that's that.

Looks that way

Kolb was hurt while going from one field to another with his offensive teammates. As he ran, Kolb slipped on a wet rubber mat and stumbled awkwardly at the Bills training camp facility in suburban Rochester on Saturday.

Though Kolb did not fall, he had trouble standing and put his arm around the shoulder of head trainer Bud Carpenter. Kolb then tossed down his helmet in frustration, before sitting down on the field.
Marrone says it's not serious, he'll be back within a few days.

Yeah, he slipped on A FREAKING MAT apparently: http://espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp1...ield-slip-camp

It's not serious per Marrone, though.

Marrone also mentioned that Stevie will be out for at least a week: http://espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp1...mstring-injury

I think Jackson's a bit of a question mark, really. He's had injury problems and had reduced effectiveness when he did play last year. I wouldn't write him off entirely, but he needs to show more than he did last year

johnjm22 08-03-2013 04:34 PM

Sounds like Manuel was good in practice again today. With Kolb injured, EJ took all the first team reps, and faced more exotic looks from the defense but was still effective.

I would be surprised if Manuel ISN'T the starting QB come September.

Which is essentially where I was going with that comment. Spiller is not a long-term 25 rush/game running back. That is now how he would be most effective. Use Jackson to rest Spiller a bit, and open things up more for Spiller.

Layne Staley 08-04-2013 08:56 AM

Spiller is most definitely someone who can get 17-21 carries a game. Of course he can't get 25 a game because that's 400 a season which no RB can continually do.

As for Jackson, he sucks. He's done he is already 32 and was on ir the last 2 years. I wouldn't care if we cut him. Marrone isn't Gailey the idiot, he isn't giving Jackson more then 8 carries a game. Spiller is a better runner period. The only thing Jackson has over CJ is pass blocking. Spiller is a top 5 RB Jackson isn't even top 40.
