Great signing. Very happy about this.

I'm shocked to hear that since its usually doom and gloom regarding the Sabres forgetting all about the Amerks but this off-season he's actually made a few signings you've agreed with.

sabrefan27 08-05-2013 08:19 AM

I'll always give credit when it's due. They've made some good signings this summer, no doubt.

It's obvious what they're doing. The 4 veterans they've signed (Ellis, Bagnall, Zigomanis and Tardif) are all captain material. Can't think of an AHL team that will have better leadership. And they did say that back in June, so good on them for backing up their statements.

Any relation to Marc Tardiff who played for the Nordiques ?

That's good to hear. :handclap:

Interesting move. I figured since there we're many NHL ready callups down in Rochester that they'd sign one with potential to fill in, kind of like a Szeczechura signing.

Agreed. So far their actions seem to be supporting the new mantra of work ethic and getting tougher to play against

Hey, that's excellent! This gives them a fine collection of vets and does what they said early on: signing vets to help with the kids.

Elite Prospects doesn't list a relation, so probably not.

I was going to ask if anyone knew if he has worn a letter in the AHL.

I decided to google it. Found:
"2010-11: Appeared in 77 games in fifth season with Grand Rapids and set career highs in goals (27), point (27) and points (54)…Named captain for second consecutive year…"

Wonder if he knows Matt Ellis since he was born in Welland, ON too. Although Ellis is 3-4 year older.

Also: "2005-06: Captained Peterborough to OHL and East Divisions championships" (theahl.com)

I love that they're trying to create a winning environment in Rochester.

Two years as captain of the Griffins, one year captain of the Petes.

everyone knows everyone in welland

It's refreshing to see them making an effort to slow-cook the Rochester prospects under the tutelage of consummate professionals that have had success in that league.

It's too bad Buffalo hasn't been able to land Morrow/other veteran leaders to do the same at the NHL level.

Looks like Ellis played with him for a season in Grand Rapids. Ellis was captain there before Tardif took over that role.

High five, man! As a Rochester native myself I've agreed with a lot of your views regarding the Amerks. Hopefully this brings back some entertaining hockey to Rochester.:handclap:

This was my biggest beef with Regier for years. Once Pegula took over I thought he'd start building a winner in Rochester. He didn't. They were still mediocre. It was very frustrating for two reasons:

1) I'm a fan of the team. I used to go to their games, but now I live in Buffalo. I had season tickets when they had Vanek, Roy, Pominville, Goose, and Miller. That team was great. It sucks watching mediocre hockey!

2) I think a winning environment is good for a rookies development.

Now they will sign 1 more veteran who can drop the mitts and replace Tarnasky. Rochester is shaping up nicely

Pretty much all they really need, maybe one more Vet D man in case they lose 1-2 to call ups.
