I take it Boston was very impressed with this.

wKetch22 08-18-2013 04:20 PM

Wow, at least this means we wont have to play him anymore haha

Legendary.

So, a three-way battle to back-up Rask: Theodore, Niklas Svedberg and Chad Johnson. I feel kinda bad for Johnson, he signed there on a 1-way deal thinking he'd been penciled in as the back-up after years of drifting around the AHL.

At least he's getting 600k regardless

RangerBoy 08-18-2013 04:31 PM

Theodore would make the first big name unrestricted free agent to sign a contract since Scott Gomez on July 31. Its August 18th now. "Big name" as in big name and not a big player anymore. Training camp begins three weeks from this Wednesday. Slow summer.

LickTheEnvelope 08-18-2013 04:34 PM

Florida just all Markstrom then?

I wouldn't say it's any slower than any other off-season August. It's always dead this time of year for hockey news. Maybe a little more surprising this time as there are more notable names without contract than most years.

I am a bit surprised Boston signed Jose. I never gave it much thought, but I guess I would've thought Florida would have re-signed him. Can't imagine Clemmenson would be much of an upgrade over him. Boston continues to baffle me with their back-up goaltending. I don't know what happened, but why didn't they just re-sign Khudobin?

Izzy 08-18-2013 04:55 PM

Kind of surprising.

Another young player for them to rush and ruin.

Khudobin signed with Carolina.

Three seasons in the AHL.

More like three half seasons in the AHL. Guy can't keep healthy. If they really think a Markstrom and Clemmenson tandem is going to get them wins.. wait, no, no one can possibly think that. Must be going for the #1 pick.

Any doubts as to which Chad Johnson you're talking about are put to rest with the bolded statement.

Markstrom was drafted 5 years ago, has been playing professional hockey for the last 6 years, has spent the last 3 years in NA, has been given a few cups of coffee in the NHL and played for an extended period of time this last season. He has not been rushed. The man is ready to take the reigns.

Not many 23 year old starting goalies in the league... he should be backing up a veteran starter, not sharing duties with Clemmensen.

It's Prince Markstrom's time....far from rushed. The present and future of Swedish goaltending.

Not all Goalie prospects are created equal...say, your starting Goalie, Jonathan Quick for example....

He meant, why didn't Boston just resign Khudobin instead of letting him become a UFA and then sign with Carolina.

Smart move by the B's. Svedberg needs to play. I don't think Johnson is an adequate back up for a contending club.

I'm thinking Prince Markstrom won't be the present of Swedish goaltending until the King abdicates.

King Henrik Says hello today....Robin Lehner says hello tomorrow....Markstrom will be the future of swedish goaltending via the backup route.

Go ahead, tell me how much better Markstrom is than Lehner. Humour us "trolls".

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
I'm furthest thing from working right now but saw some tweets about Jose Theodore signing in BOS. Curious, I asked. Told there's zero truth.

Maybe he actually signed in Pittsburgh? Anyone heard anything from Aaron Ward? :sarcasm:
