THN: Top 50 players entering the 2013-2014 season (Subban - 23rd / Price - 48th)

The annual feature in THN's Yearbook. Due to copyright issues, I can't post the lists, but I can post little random bits.

Subban is ranked 23rd, and the 6th ranked defenseman. He's behind Karlsson, Doughty, Keith, Chara & Suter.

Price is ranked 48th, and the 7th ranked goaltender. He's behind Quick, Lundqvist, Rask, Bobrovsky, Anderson, & Crawford.

Top 5 for those wondering:

1. Sidney Crosby
2. Alex Ovechkin
3. Steven Stamkos
4. Erik Karlsson
5. John Tavares

Our top 10 prospects:

1. Nathan Beaulieu
2. Michael McCarron
3. Jacob De La Rose
4. Zachary Fucale
5. Jarred Tinordi
6. Sebastian Collberg
7. Charles Hudon
8. Michael Bournival
9. Christian Thomas
10. Artturi Lehkonen

There's also an article on Alex Galchenyuk.

Tavares is way too high IMO.

Blind Gardien 08-13-2013 01:56 PM

Subban's ranking seems fair. Price's overall ranking maybe, but not sure how guys like Anderson, Crawford, and Bobrovsky get to be amongst the goalies ahead of him.

I'm surprised Rinne isn't in the top 3

One completely outplayed him in the playoffs, the other has a Cup, and the other a Vezina trophy. Not that surprising to be honest...

Hopefully Malkin is number six and not too far away from the top 5 because Tavares ahead of him doesn't make a lot of sense.

I actually prefer it that way. Collberg is someting of a project until he starts to add so me production. Ceiling may be higher, but it's mostly a ceiling at this point.

DLR looks like a guy who could play in the NHL next season and slowly climb the ladder.

Is this the one where a member from each organization submits their top prospect list?

If so.......I dunnnnnoabbbouttthaatt

sharks9 08-13-2013 02:54 PM

Karlsson and Tavares over Malkin? I dunno about that.

Not likely. That's Future Watch.

They likely blended those rankings from earlier in the year and just added in this years draft class. It was probably one of their writers.

Karlsson in the top 5 is hilarious, especially ahead of Malkin.

agreed , this dude is a one way offensive player

doesnt play well defensively , average skater

from the hash marks in he is as good as it gets but you wont win cup with him as your best player

stats fantasy player, elite pp guy

jedimyrmidon 08-13-2013 05:20 PM

I don't really understand the 'universal' infatuation with Erik Karlsson.

One really good year, and there goes the neighborhood...not sure if this guy can even make a 10 yr career in the league, personally I think injuries will be his downfall, he just doesn't have the bulk for a dman to stay away from injuries...he's an offensive talent, but time will tell if he can even stay in the league...

JohnLennon 08-13-2013 05:30 PM

Karlsson number four? Seriously?

I don't agree with him being top 5 but at least bring some solid arguments against him, he isn't an offense only d-man. He is very good at cutting off the passing lanes and taking the puck away in the defensive and neutral zone, obviously the defensive side of his game isn't his forte he certainly isn't a one way offensive player as you say. Also what is this about an average skater? Karlsson has one of those fluid skating strides which you don't realize how fast he's actually going. If you're basing this on the playoffs of course he wasn't full speed, I would suggest catching some games from the beggining of the season. He was playing like the best d-man in the NHL. He is also amazing at pivoting and can change directions easily due to his magnificent skating stride. I know you have an infatuation with big, physical players but let's not make stuff up here.

MonkeyBusiness 08-13-2013 05:40 PM

Brain fart, thought Onemorecup's comment was directed at Karlsson.

MonkeyBusiness 08-13-2013 05:44 PM

Sorry about that onemorecup.

elite1prospects 08-13-2013 05:51 PM

EK 4th? I would have malkin there over him everyday of the week and twice sunday

Estimated_Prophet 08-13-2013 05:53 PM

THN has become a worthless rag for the most part........I only buy the draft preview anymore as the rest of the time it is no better than reading the local paper. Sports writers are simply every day fans with journalism degrees......99% of fans are completely clueless about their favourite sport which is clearly reflected in this pathetic publication.

MonkeyBusiness 08-13-2013 05:57 PM

I don't understand how Malkin could be left out of the top 5, one could make a case for Stamkos and Ovi (IMO he's better than both of them) but to have Karlsson and Tavares over him is crazy.
