Worst contract this summer?

Which team signed the worst contract this summer? For me it's close between Smith and Crawford. I give it to Smith, because Phoenix has an internal budget and they are throwing away a lot of money on a mediocre goalie. He will also be quite old by the end of the contract.

Oates2Neely 09-03-2013 05:32 PM

Horton

glassbangers 09-03-2013 05:33 PM

Toronto/Clarkson.

Virtanev 09-03-2013 05:36 PM

Nashville's signings were quite bad. Nystom, Stalberg and Cullen for a combined 9 million, though the Josi signing was a great.

Agreed. Of all the contracts given out, this is the last one I'd want. Takes him til 36 at a bad cap hit for him IMO. If I remember right, he even said he had higher offers from other teams but chose Toronto...

robertguess2013 09-03-2013 05:38 PM

ryan clowe

JeffMangum 09-03-2013 05:38 PM

Clowe's contract is really bad. A five year commitment for a guy who had three concussions in six months? Extremely questionable. At least, on the flipside, the Devils got one of the steals of the summer in Ryder's contract.

Obviously Clarkson's is terrible as well.

virothepyro 09-03-2013 05:44 PM

likely Mike Smith would be the one i view as the worst and we have some other solid contenders

Agreed

Mike Smith

allan5oh 09-03-2013 06:08 PM

It's not crawford because:

1). It was an extension that doesnt kick in until next year

2) it doesnt screw his own team out of one or potentially two great players like the clarkson contract does

Qward 09-03-2013 06:08 PM

corvo

Rook37 09-03-2013 06:09 PM

1. Clarkson
2. Clowe

easily

I think it's Clowe. Came off what was it a 2 or 3 goal season?

Bourne Endeavor 09-03-2013 06:11 PM

While I think Clarkson will underperform compared to what his contract and Leaf hype demands, he will at least contribute. Smith and Clowe are the two I foresee being horrible some two years or so. Crawford's is not great, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

crowi 09-03-2013 06:12 PM

Clarkson
Clowe

Hands down Clarkson and whatever Kadri signs for.

I do agree Clowe's contract stinks, but do you expect him to have a 3% shooting percentage for the rest of his career?

He will be better than he was last year but that doesn't make the contract good, I agree.

Such is life in the UFA market.

DuckEatinShark 09-03-2013 06:18 PM

Clowe was not worth $3.6 million to the Sharks last year. Almost all of us wanted him out.

Now he's getting paid $4.8 million for 5 more years!!! with a NMC. I guarantee Devils fans will be wishing for Clarkson back after two years.

Clarkson

on the 7 year 5.25M deal? doubt it. even if we end up wanting Clowe gone, it wont be for Clarkson

I would rather have Clowe for his contract than Clarkson for his.

and I would gather that most Devils fans agree.

Pohlow 09-03-2013 06:24 PM

Clowe, not close. Clarkson will still produce 2 years down the line, while Clowe will be on LTIR

vokiel 09-03-2013 06:25 PM

Hard to say which one: Clowe, Horton, Clarkson and Crawford are all bad imho
