Brenden Morrow

Isn't this guy a decent player..?? Still unsigned ufa.... couldn't we squeeze him somehow..??

Shaby23 09-03-2013 08:57 PM

No thx.

LyricalLyricist 09-03-2013 09:00 PM

I'd like him on our team but there's no where to squeeze him. If ever we made a deal in quantity for quality and improved somewhere else than fit him in we'd be in good shape but as of now, no space. I do like him though as a top 9 forward.

Discussed multiple times in multiple threads.

He expressed interest, nothing came of it.

Safe to say, there probably isn't any room for him. Plekanec, Pacioretty, Gionta, Bourque, Briere, Desharnais, Eller, Galchenyuk and Gallagher all make up the Habs top 9. Morrow would have to push one of White, Moen, Prust or Parros completely out of the line-up. I just can't see any justification with bringing in a guy like Morrow and placing him on your fourth line.

Depth, grit, and leadership are justification enough --- I'd take him over Moen, White, or Parros any day. Twelve minutes from Brendan Morrow is a lot better than 12 minutes from Travis Moen.

We are also about two injuries away from Mike Blunden being a regular. There is absolutely room for Brendan Morrow on the depth chart.

I think Bergevin is giving Moen a chance to prove himself and show that last year was an off-year, much like Desharnais. Remove White and you'd be putting all your chips on Prust taking face-offs and hoping for the best, instead of having him as a secondary face-off guy on the wing. Prust you don't move and Parros is a 13th forward that fills a role Morrow can't.

Morrow is a third line guy. Not a fourth. If you're signing him, one of the top nine has to be bumped down and that's likely not going to happen. Injuries are another thing.

HatTricK09 09-03-2013 10:12 PM

He's not bad, but the problem is we have too much top 9 talent

crazyd 09-03-2013 10:23 PM

Move Gionta and there's space for him. Would be awesome on a 3rd line.

Pacs - Pleks - Briere
Gally - Eller - Galler
Morrow - DD -Bourque
Moen - White - Prust

Anksun 09-03-2013 10:24 PM

Having too many top9 forwards to not signed Morrow makes absolutely no sense. Gionta is starting the year on the injury list and we'll have our fair share of injuries like any other teams (+ old players + 2 2nd year players + very physical division +++)

I understand the cap restrictions and wanting to let our players prove themselves. But i'm not buying the depth argument half a second.

Per Patrick Clarke, who I believe covers the Hurricanes, Habs have invited Morrow to camp but Morrow is looking for a guaranteed contract.

Kriss E 09-03-2013 10:51 PM

Should have signed him instead of Briere.

patrick clark isn't a reporter. He's a canes fan who is regurgitating the rumor he heard on that french site.

Oh well. Nothing to it then.

vokiel 09-03-2013 11:07 PM

Squeeze him? How about water boy?

Maxpac 09-03-2013 11:07 PM

Even if we moved Desharnais, there's just no room..

Pacioretty-Plekanec-Briere
Bourque-Eller-Gionta
Prust-Galchenyuk-Gallagher
Moen-White-Parros
Dumont.

We simply have no room for Morrow.

In this case Morrow would be in Prust place I would really like the depth, that would be a nice balanced roster.

Parros is not a regular. Basically, Prust-Gally-Galla-Morrow-Moen-White is your main bottom 6. If Parros needs to be inserted, then we can take Moen or White off.

Also, Briere cannot handle the tough assignments given to Plekanec. He wasn't even getting that role in Philly.

MB has clearly stated that shopping is finished for now.
So unless injuries occurs...

MasterD 09-04-2013 12:59 AM

1. Morrow >>>>>>>>[...]>>>>>>Moen

2. Trade someone (Gionta?) for a declining but still usefull stay at home D (Ohlund style) and insert Morrow

Sure, trade our captain for ANOTHER defenseman. Great plan.

Richiebottles 09-04-2013 08:55 AM

Trade Gio for a pick and a prospect and sign Morrow. Problem solved. Plus a saved 3 Million.

MonkeyBusiness 09-04-2013 09:22 AM

Trade Desharnais for a hockey stick, preferably an RBZ.

Pacioretty-Plekanec-Gionta
Bourque-Eller-Briere
Morrow-Galchenyuk-Gallagher
Prust-White-Moen
Parros

Blind Gardien 09-04-2013 09:23 AM

There's room for Morrow even without injuries. But it also sounds like Gionta and Parros may miss the start of the season. Either way, I'd very cheerfully sign Morrow for $1.5M/1yr. The injuries will eventually pile up.
