Where is Chet Pickard for 2013-14

Where is Chet Pickard playing for the 2013-14 season. He was with Djurgarden last year, but I do not see him listed anywhere this year.
Thanks for any thoughts.

I am pretty sure the Preds released him so there is no telling where he will end up

Correct. He wasn't tendered a qualifying offer, thus became a UFA.

I am more interested in brother Calvin. He is younger and better than Chet.

won tonight at the Pepsi Center, in OT vs. Kings.

triggrman 09-21-2013 07:41 AM

worst pick ever.

KevFist 09-21-2013 09:01 AM

We need Jean-Luc Pickard.

hockey diva 09-21-2013 09:10 AM

Especially considering who was still on the board at the time.

Yup ... particularly with who was still on the board, do we just not like offensively productive forwards ? ... Players still on the board when we selected Chet: (Eberle) 156 points in 195 NHL Games Played :banghead:

Questionable pick at the time ... terrible in retrospect ... then again some of the proposed draft picks that float around message boards are just as bad. Poile and his scouting team decided that when the top ranked NA goalie was on the board with their second pick of the round (after taking Wilson) that they would snag him. Didn't work out but conceptually understandable.

So does Poile stay away from NA goalies for the forseeable future particularly in the first round or so (that's 2 strikes in first round goalie busts) ... but they've made hay in the later rounds with European Goalies ... Lindback, Eberle & Wilson >>>>> Wilson, Pickard & Lindback *bullet to the head*

Liquidfire3240 09-21-2013 11:44 AM

Well, Wilson and Pickard knew each other before the draft, so I guess Poile thought they could be together and develop together, but, not so much.

Gnashville 09-21-2013 01:17 PM

We traded back to pick him Ottawa used that pick to draft Erik Karlsson. I called it a bust at the time and wondered why Poile wastes picks on Goalies in the 1st.

Could have just as easily been Gustafsson, Tedenby, or Nemisz. Eberle actually went higher than he was supposed to. He was slated for the 2nd round by a lot of pre-draft rankings.

The mistake in that draft was trading back. Never trade back in the first round. It rarely works out.

You stand corrected

Finley was a good goalie. He just never got any better in Milwaukee. I can't remember another player who was here for more than one season and showed no real improvement. His first season GAA was 2.93. His fourth season GAA was 2.70. He was not a good big game or playoff goalie, so I have to agree with you.

I don't think he even truly recovered from that groin injury. He then lost his confidence and it was down hill from there.

Nope, Finley was twice the goalie as Chit. He just had injury issues. Chit isn't even a good ECHL goalie.

It is true that Chet went an entire calendar year without winning an AHL game.

I probably saw Finley play 100 AHL games. The playoffs against Cincinnati was his low point. My grandma could have stopped the series winning goal, but Finley didn't. It was a chip shot from the neutral zone! I think it was 2004-05, the year after the Admirals won the Calder Cup.

Finley was ''sixth'' overall, pickard was ''eighteenth'' overall, maybe if both were 18 overall then yeah, Chet was worse pick.
But neither did a thing in the NHL whatsoever. Which is why they were drafted.

There is one (and only one) redeeming thing about the Pickard pick... if we hadnt traded down we would not have had Ottawa's 3rd round pick in 2009... and therefore we would not have had Taylor Beck... so even if the 1st round pick was a bust the trade wasnt a total disaster

Would you trade Taylor Beck and Chet Pickard for Erik Karlsson???

All goalie picks are risky with the limited NHL spots and usually long development time. We've had Finley and Pickard. DiPietro, Krahn, Toivenen, Bacashihua, Munro, Montoya, Schwartz, Helenius, Irving populate the list of disappointing first round goalie selections across the league over the past decade or so. Some are good when healthy, others just vanished from the radar.

15 goalies drafted by the Preds between 1998 and 2010 ... two with 20 or more NHL games. Both 7th round or later picks.
