RUMOR: TSN/Miller/McGuire talk about Eric Lindros -> Leafs

Pierre McGuire & Gord Miller talking about the Leafs.. saying there is talk Lindros is talking with the Leafs right now

GKJ 07-13-2005 12:02 PM

Christ, the lockout isn't "over" for 4 hours and we gotta fire up this crap

;)

MissConduct22 07-13-2005 12:04 PM

I heard it too... did they say something like he'll take a small pay (with bonuses)

Leaf Army 07-13-2005 12:28 PM

Rumour around Toronto was that before the lockout started, both Lindros and the Leafs had an agreement in principle that he'd sign with them once the new CBA was hammered out.

Guy Flaming 07-13-2005 12:34 PM

Phew! I was worried my team was going to take another run at him. Last I heard he was denting the scale at close to 300 lbs so I'll be glad if he goes to Toronto.

Jacob 07-13-2005 01:17 PM

I would be shocked if the Leafs were to find room under the cap to sign him, or any other decent UFA for that matter.

They are big time sellers this offseason.

FLYLine24 07-13-2005 01:20 PM

Lindors to the Leafs?? Im praying! Pissed he left my favorite team but ill be VERY happy if he goes to the next best thing! Big E + Leafs = THE STANLEY CUP!

Bileur 07-13-2005 01:21 PM

20$ says Volchenkov ends it all for him.

Thats a shame, if you had seen him play every game last year you wouldnt be saying that at all.

Juicer 07-13-2005 01:40 PM

Are they allowed to negotiate without the deal being ratified?

are you serious? This has to be a joke. His playing weight is 230. If he is slowed by age / weight, there is no way he can avoid the flying elbows .

Heh. That's cutting it pretty close. ;)

Mr Sakich 07-13-2005 02:24 PM

the 39 mill number includes benefits which are estimated at 1.5 - 2.0 mill. That only leaves 37 mill for salary. Also, 2.0 mill for lindros and allison seems a little light.

Post #10 is smoking some high quality goods because the minimum salary for a NHL player is 450 K.

That means Perrot, Wilm, Wellwood/Kukumberg/Ling/Druken/Williams and Hedin/White/Bell/Kronwall/Harrison won't be making 0.4 mils or anything under that. So he may look into raising the salaries of those six players.

And what makes you think Jason Allison will be signing for only 2 million dollars per year when large amounts of performance bonuses are out of the question?
Why would Alex Steen sign for anything under the rookie max?
Why would Tellqvist sign for 0.4 mils?

ktownhockey 07-13-2005 02:37 PM

Lindros is still awesome... it will be a good inexpensive pick up for the leafs.

think-blue- 07-13-2005 02:37 PM

Leafs Lunch last week? (Marek specifically) hinted that Lindros might look to Florida as well...and of course they were seemingly convinced the Leafs would look at Allison. We'll see.

Im just glad we're going to be seeing credible rumours on the trade board again

craig1 07-13-2005 02:38 PM

Post #10 is some guys made up fantasy.....what does it prove? There is no possible way to know what the Leafs will look like, or who they will sign and for what price. Speculating someone may sign here or there is fine. Coming up with line combos involving salaries, that go over the cap nonetheless, is rediculous to think of as "proof."

not according to TSN.

bobby mack corrected himself on TV, saying the cap will be $39 mil + benefits.

NYR94 07-13-2005 02:40 PM

Man, with all the injuries Toronto has had they want a player like Lindros? Look, he was an amazing talent from 93-2000, but his game has changed due to all of the concussions. I guess there's a chance he could stay healthy and have a very good year the way he did with the Rangers in 2001-2002, but it just seems too risky to me. Especially playing in the East where you have to face players like Stevens, Primeau, Volchenkov, Peca, Kubina etc. I wouldn't sign this guy for anything over $1-1.25 million.

there is an exemption (according to some reports) to which players teams can offer bonuses. i.e. players with injury histories, such as allison. maybe even lindros.

Tellqvist is already signed for $0.418 for next year.
