#Oilers put Ben Eager on waivers...

djdub 10-02-2013 11:13 AM

That Gazdic tho

:yo:

Obviously they think Gazdic is a better option. I kinda feel bad for Eager.

BoldNewLettuce 10-02-2013 11:14 AM

Ben Eager is better than Smyth.

I don't.

He has no problem going to jail defending his brother from insults in a bar but when it comes to defending his teammates he is nowhere to be found.

WhiteMandingo 10-02-2013 11:15 AM

If Parros is gonna be out for a while I could see Montreal trying to claim him.

Don't tell Eakins or MacT that.

This. I don't know how Smyth doesn't go to management and tell them he is retiring after that game. Here's to hoping he gets put in the PB for quite a while.

Petro Points 10-02-2013 11:17 AM

someone must be ready to return... we have no extra forwards or Dmen now..

Grebs, Gagner, RNH, SMack are injured and the rest are sent down.

That was one of the worst games I've seen from Smyth.

Eakins thought it was only average.

Smyth is going to have to do a heck of a lot worse to see the PB.

Sorry for the OT.

bummer. after the playoffs he had last year in the AHL, I hoped he'd bounce back.

hope someone picks him up as it would be nice to get rid of a contract.

Could be the reason they waived him today and not a day ago or a few days ago. Just trying to get that contract spot back?

Jimmi Jenkins 10-02-2013 11:19 AM

Well this is interesting, I wonder if someone is coming back (Nuge?) or if they're making some other kind of move.

Eakins hinted he doesn't need many extra players around. With Eager on waivers I wonder if Oilers only keep 21, or recall someone?

Maybe Pitlick

BoldNewLettuce 10-02-2013 11:20 AM

I thought Eager actually had some fire in the pre season. This is mismanagement, IMO. A couple times I saw him break up plays with his stick and seemed to be skating well enough...

The guy must have a bad attitude? Or Smyth is just a veteran in the sense that he knows how to get minutes from a coach.

hallsyoilerforever 10-02-2013 11:23 AM

I rather see Eager in the lineup instead of Smyth. Smyth's easily the worst oiler right now.

It makes sense to have players playing in OKC rather than sitting in the PB since there is no recall waivers.

I think the Oilers look at as a win-win situation. If he clears, he can work on his game down in OKC and come back up with no risk of loosing him. If he gets claimed, they open up a contract spot, which can be pretty valuable if a multi player trade comes up.

Devan Dubnyk disputes that.

BoldNewLettuce 10-02-2013 11:35 AM

I suppose theres the idea that Eager wanted to be in OKC. He had a good run under Nelson and probably didnt want to sit another game...if that was in the cards.

Was thinking that would be nice.

Wonder if anyone is looking for an Eager type

I don't exactly agree with not having guys in the PB. We have had issues before with getting guys in from OKC in the past. Given our climate anyone can get sick at any moment, why not carry an extra player just in case? Granted right now it doesn't matter as we don't play until Saturday, but going forward we should have a backup plan.

Musashi 10-02-2013 11:56 AM

Eager is better then no one

Don't be ridiculous

FlyingV 10-02-2013 12:05 PM

Don't like this at all. At this point anyone who can skate, hit, not give the puck away every time they touch it and not take stupid penalties should be playing in smyths spot. So that would include Eager, Pitlick, Hamilton, hell even jones would be a better option and I'm not a fan of his play of late.
