The Las Vegas Wranglers announced Thursday that former NHL All-Star, Vezina Trophy nominee, and Stanley Cup champion Ilya Bryzgalov has signed a professional try-out agreement which allows him to participate in the team’s training camp.

“Having a world-class player like Ilya in camp is a great opportunity for our organization and our players,” said Wranglers Head Coach and General Manager Mike Madill. “Operating independently of an NHL affiliation allows us the freedom to explore these types of opportunities, and we are thrilled to have Ilya here to work with us, and our goaltenders especially. It will be an amazing experience for them.”

Working on confirming or debunking, but, word in Philly is Bryzgalov is about to sign an East Coast Hockey League contract in Las Vegas.

Joey Moss 10-02-2013 08:29 PM

Surely someone in the AHL would have asked about him, right? :amazed:

The Korean* 10-02-2013 08:30 PM

No, 120 goalies.

30 NHL starters
30 NHL backups

30 NHL starters
30 AHL backups

Give or take ;)

Ragamuffin Gunner 10-02-2013 08:31 PM

If his agent called Shero and said he'd sign for 550K I'm pretty sure he'd say yes.

He had no shot in hell in front of Philly's defense either. I can understand the rumors about him being a headcase - I get that - but he's easily talented enough to be a backup let alone start in the NHL.

seafoam 10-02-2013 08:32 PM

Bryz and Vegas should be fun.

haterbehatin 10-02-2013 08:32 PM

I really don't understand all the shock to this. Surely it's just to stay in shape and in the Country while he waits for an NHL offer to his liking. A lot easier to relocate to an NHL team than to try to negotiate a release in a KHL contract.

Why not khl?

TheHudlinator 10-02-2013 08:35 PM

Trying to prove he can still play. Good luck to him I think there are several teams that will give him a look if he does will (Edm, Pitts, Mon, Tampa)

Pyromaniac3 10-02-2013 08:35 PM

Humongous big downfall.

If he signs in the KHL his NHL career is over. By signing in the ECHL he can stay in shape, show NHL teams he can play, and leave once he gets an NHL contract.
