Talk about the D at Montreal

Canadiens have good team but I think is defense need improvement and with the new CBA its time to make it.

On Habs D's line up :
Souray, Markov, Komisarek, Rivet.
Don't resign Patrice Brisebois.
Try Ron Hainsey a last year (or he will passed by waiver before send to Hamilton..)
Take some cash for go after '' average '' defensman like Matvichuk or a D can really help Montreal Blue Line like Foote, Aucoin or Zhitnik.

My perfect D-Habs line up would be :
Komisarek - Markov
Souray - UFA (Foote, Aucoin, Matvichuk or Zhitnik).
Rivet - Hainsey
#7 : Bouillon or MARK STREIT if he accept come north america.

What did you think about ?

PapaBear* 07-13-2005 07:55 PM

Have to unload Rivet and Brisebois if they can. Rievt at 2.7 is a joke.

Spooky371* 07-13-2005 07:57 PM

But we need to buy-out Rivet a 66% with the new CBA...
What about Eric Desjardins or Mike Rathje ?

PapaBear* 07-13-2005 07:59 PM

The top 4 right now is, Souray, Markov, Brisebois, and Rivet.

Dump brisebois, maybe trade Rivet? he is so over rated anyways. Its about time Komisarek and Hainsey take his spot.

Traitor8 07-13-2005 08:03 PM

my team:

Souray-Niedermayer
Markov-Aucoin
Hainsey-Komisarek

Buy out Brisebois and Rivet...we have 9 players signed for 11.1 M $ . We can offer Nidermayer about 6-6.5 M $ and Aucoin 4 M $ while taking into consideration Koivu,Theodore,Ribeiro,Markov,Ryder and Kovalev. We would be at about 36-37 M $

Count of DannyKristo 07-13-2005 08:06 PM

Yeah, just plug Niedermayer and Aucoin in there. :biglaugh:

Realistically, I'm hoping to dump Brisebois and make a solid UFA addition.

Souray
Markov
UFA
Komisarek
Rivet
Hainsey

Bouillon
Streit

Spooky371* 07-13-2005 08:07 PM

Hell.
Never habs have enoguh money to sign Niedermayer, Kovalev and Aucoin ! :shakehead

mytor4* 07-13-2005 08:20 PM

what about m.ohlund. he would be great in the habs lineup and not signed yet

Spooky371* 07-13-2005 08:21 PM

He are UFA ?

captaincanadian 07-13-2005 08:32 PM

Ohlund is a RFA

There's no way that the Canucks trade him. He's their anchor on the blueline, they'd be really hurting defensively without him. Jovanovski on the other hand, I could see him being shopped if the Canucks happen to sign Scott Niedermayer.

What about you do the math and then come tell me something like that..

Just try to do the math. it works! The habs are in good position because some of their best players won't be making a lot of money...

Ribeiro
Ryder
Markov
Hainsey
Komisarek
Perezhogin
Bulis
Begin
Zednik
Sundstrom
Ward
Hossa
Huet

that's 13 players right there...

burgess1978 07-13-2005 09:49 PM

What about Schneider or Malakhov?

Detroit were looking to re-sign Schnieder pre-lockout, but may not have the cap room.

Malakhov signed in Russia. Not sure if he has a NHL out-clause, but the likelihood of him returning to Philadelphia is low.

Either of these guys could be solid contributers and may not be as or in-demand as Foote, Aucoin, Zhitnik, Rathje and Niedermayer.

I say keep Bouillon. He's a good skater and teams may need more of them if the league goes ahead with any of the rumoured rule changes. Rivet can stick around for a year. He can still contribute. After another year Komisarek may be able to take a bigger role.

Souray-Schneider or Malakhov
Markov-Komisarek
Hainsey-Rivet

Bouillon

So Koivu, Ryder, and Souray aren't going to be signed to have space for Aucoin, Kovalev, and Foote. Good luck with that.

VirginiaMtlExpat 07-13-2005 10:15 PM

I like the Schneider option, if he's still available. I see him as more open to a return to Montreal than Malakhov, who had his tribulations with the media.

Habsfan 32 07-13-2005 10:24 PM

I'd like to find a way to get Jovanovski to Montreal.

I put Ryder in the list. I didn't mention Souray cause I don't consider him "cheap" and btw he is already signed. I never mentionned Foote anywhere.

Traitor8 07-13-2005 10:51 PM

Hainsey-Komisarek
Replacements: Bouillon

Kose Theodore

All that to say that's it's possible

Phil Parent 07-14-2005 01:34 AM

I'd go for Adam Foote and Tomas Kloucek, myself.

Pure Slaughter Value 07-14-2005 08:41 AM

Mathematically possible, but you'd better pray the game opens up with that lineup. Missing some much-needed "grit" at the forward position. On paper it looks like an excellent regular season team with the new rules in effect but in the playoff's they seem like they'd have a tough go.

The problem with this is you can't restructure contracts,so if both Rivet
and Brisebois are bought out the Habs can't resign them for less, so you
need to be sure you can replace both with better players for less money.
There are some very good and good dmen available but we'll be competing
with alot of other teams for the same players. Can we realistically expect
to grab Niedermeyer(sp) or Aucoin or any of the other good dmen available?
I expect Gainey to buyout one but both? I doubt it.

Well, that's pretty much what everybody said (including me, a somewhat realistical Habs fan) thought before the playoffs when we took the Bruins out of it the two last times... In fact, our little players are showing quite a bit of heart in the playoffs, I just think about Koivu who played with broken ribs through the Bruins/Habs series while being our best player. Of course, in the second round the team totally collapsed, but we were more outsmarted and outskilled by the Lightning than anything else, as far as I can remember.

Anyway, I think that Gainey as the grit issue in his sight and that he will actually do something about it slowly but surely. What we need first in a competent defense for sure, the goals will eventually come if we can clear the puck from our own zone. For that you don't necessarily need a 6 foot 4 defender, in fact Andrei Markov is one of our better defenseman at digging pucks in the corner and then making a crisp pass to a forward who will get it out of our zone, you need a player with good hockey sense, brain and calm. It also helps if he has puck poise, hurm...

when I was reading this thread I was hoping that it was on the habs board and hidden from the view of general public. Man I hate chemical induced fantasy threads.

I'm thinking,

1 - buy out Brisebois and Rivet.
2 - Avalanche buys out Blake, we get him.
3 - We make a play for Pronger if the Blues are shopping him.
4 - Sign Foote, Aucoin and Niedermayer as UFA.

Pronger - Blake
Souray - Foote
Markov - Aucoin
7th D: Niedermayer

Komisarek and Hainsey need more seasoning in the AHL, and Bouillon can fight it out with Niedermayer for 7th defenceman.

Waht do you mean Komisarek needs AHL conditioning, he was one of our best D man in the playoffs..
