Do the Oilers take Ekblad?

Say the Oilers get the #1 or 2 pick. Do they take Ekblad(or McKeown)? Or do they go for Reinhart? Do Oilers fans think it's likely that the Oil trade Yakupov for a d-man, and then use the pick to take a forward?

Joey Moss 11-09-2013 01:30 PM

Great.. another thread to set up the "no they'll take a forward obviously" posts..

They would/should take Ekblad.

Huffman 11-09-2013 01:36 PM

They shouldn't pick anyone in the first round.

CBJBrassard16 11-09-2013 01:38 PM

Yes.

Scarecrow Boat 11-09-2013 01:39 PM

no they'll take a forward obviously

s7ark 11-09-2013 01:40 PM

Obviously they should take Ekblad. But given that Oilers management is retarded, who knows what they'll do.

Wizeman* 11-09-2013 01:41 PM

I agree. I think every team takes Ekblad if they get to draft 1st overall. However, the Sabres and Flyers have something to say about that.

Ducks Nation* 11-09-2013 01:42 PM

They will pick a scoring 6' and under forward with no defensive ability or toughness again.

I don't think it's a set up. It's a legit question. And given how even you said "They would/should take Ekblad.", sounds like even you realize they could definitely be taking a forward.

Loffer 11-09-2013 01:59 PM

If they can't get Nylander, Kapanen will still be available...

Minister of Offence 11-09-2013 02:28 PM

They'd most be better off using 1st overall to get two quality veteran two way Dmen or a young high potential goaltender thrown in.

They lack players that combine ability, leadership and credibility.

james30 11-09-2013 02:30 PM

they should use the pick and trade for a more experienced d. an 18 year old does not take you to the playoffs!

dwanmaster* 11-09-2013 02:35 PM

they'll probably take Reinhart

7even 11-09-2013 02:49 PM

At this point, they should probably take Ekblad, and I'm not even a fan of drafting for need or taking defensemen first. But it's getting ridiculous over there.

Rare Jewel 11-09-2013 02:56 PM

If they get another top 10 pick, They should trade it right away.

Stephen 11-09-2013 02:59 PM

They should probably package that pick off for a young stud player from a less dysfunctional organization. I truly believe that. You need a guy with youth and upside to come in and take a leadership role and show the brat pack how to be professionals, not have a fresh 18 year old get inundated into the same messed up culture. It's not 1983 and none of them are Gretzky, Messier, Coffey, Kurri or Anderson.

the oilers could have all the 1st overall picks in the world, and they'd still find a way to lose year after year. They need a re-tooling, and complete makeover top to bottom, fire that moron Lowe and probably hire a better, more qualified coach.

If? To have a 50/50 chance of finishing higher than dead last in the West they need to 30-26-8. A top 10 pick is a guarantee.

Pi 11-09-2013 03:09 PM

If I am Edmonton...I am trading that pick with one of my forwards for Seth Jones.

Let's say Edmonton finishes 2nd last. Gagner plus 2nd overall for Seth Jones is a great deal for both clubs.

Nashville has a chance at Nylander and Reinhart plus they get an established #2C. Nashville gets their forwards, Edmonton gets their D.

I do not think Ekblad is worth a top 3 pick IMO. Weak draft.

Nashville wouldn't dump Jones for anything Edmonton has to offer.

What he said. Edmonton should have been taking dmen or trading down and picking dmen already.

May as well move it now then.

HockeySensible 11-09-2013 03:26 PM

Just trade Yakupov already. Not saying he shouldn't have gone 1st overall at the time, but the Oilers should have traded that pick.

Mowzie 11-09-2013 03:33 PM

Our drafting and development is horrible. Trade picks for established players from here on out unless it's a McDavid.
