Brian Wilde: Rene Bourque should retire due to health issues

As per Brian Wilde on TSN690 with Tony Marinaro, Rene Bourque should retire because his concusion issues are serious and it will affect his short term and long term health drastically.

Wish Rene all the best! Hope he does not retire just yet.

I could of sworn prior to Tuesday's game, it was said he had a lower body injury. Which head of his has the concussion? :D :sarcasm:

what a dumb thing to say...who is Brian Wilde to counsel Rene Bourque on what he should do with his livelyhood?

JayKing 11-21-2013 10:18 AM

Damn. Didn't see that one coming at all. Hopefully he's back healthy soon enough.

PyrettaBlaze* 11-21-2013 10:18 AM

I hope Brian Wilde was just being his usual dramatic self when he said that because that would really suck if true. Head injuries are no joke. Poor Bourque. :(

WestIslander 11-21-2013 10:22 AM

Apparently he does have a lower body injury, but his concusion injury from last season has made him get headaches and vomiting as well.

Big Lurk 11-21-2013 10:26 AM

well, he'll get the Marc Savard treatment

maybe thats why his game wasn't the same at all, wish him all the best!!

thaivuN 11-21-2013 10:27 AM

"should" as in "it is expected that" or as in an advice?

hersky77 11-21-2013 10:28 AM

Take everything Brian wilde and tony say with a grain of salt. These are two of the worst habs reporters out there.

But if it is true, take all the time you need rene, your'e life is far more important then hockey.

Well said! :handclap:

injured players don't retire while they still have a contract even if they will probably never play NHL hockey again... They get paid, team gets LTIR/insurance compensation. Look at Savard/Pronger.

MXD 11-21-2013 10:39 AM

That's a bit out of nowhere...

Wilde backtracking like crazy on twitter:

Brian Wilde @BWildeCTV:
Important to note I suggested on TSN Bourque should retire not because he suffers now but because I worry how bad next concussion will be.

Brian Wilde @BWildeCTV:
Wow can things get out of control on Twitter. Again, no evidence exists at all Bourque has concussion symptoms right now. None. Zero.

Ceux de Montreal 11-21-2013 10:42 AM

@kevenbreton @MAGodin @TonyMarinaro I am not suggesting it because he suffers now but because I worry about next concussion. #bigdifference

Burke the Legend 11-21-2013 10:43 AM

Well I didn't hear what he said on the radio to know if he was misquoted, but it sounds like classic Wilde dramatics to me. I wonder if this guy just likes seeing his name thrown around.

In any case, I don't think there's anything worth discussing here in light of those tweets.
