Why not Comrie?
 

Is there any reason why MM doesn't appear to be overly active towards Comrie? He is beginning his prime years and will be a good 1st line offensive forward for a long time. He's fast, a sparkplug and has great hands. Isn't that what Yash needs?

The Isles and Oilers have made great trading partners for years.

Is there anything to this? Do you guys view him as a possible answer for the hole on the 1st line?

I'll agree that the Oil and NYI have been good trading partners in the past, but I'm not sure there would be much, if anything, on the Islander roster that would fit with Edmonton's needs and salary confines. Did you have any players in mind going Edmonton's way in a deal?

Me and Trottier came to an agreement on Comrie for Scatchard + Hunter I am sure most other Oiler fans would not like it but MacT said we were going in a more defensive direction and that would be a good step in that direction. Scatchard put up 27 goals last year and should be accountable for 20 on a regular basis, hes also really good on face-offs which we need after Marchant left, both him and Hunter are Alberta boys.
possible line-ups I see with Scatchard

York-Scatchard-Dvorak (good size up front finally lets York play where he is best suited on the left wing and very good offensively and defensively)

Moreau-Scatchard-Pisani/Rita/Hunter (I think Moreau and Scatchard would go great together take Pisani for defense, Rita for a scoring touch but still good on d, and Hunter for a pure size masher line)

Comrie is a great asset but great role guys like Scatchard are just as rare and vital to success as any superstar forward and guys like him we can keep for a long time where as Comrie is just a blip on the map.

the Oil don't need Comrie...they have Isbister to 'step-up' to be that 1st line power forward...

Can the Isles afford Comrie?

If they moved around assets, yes. Do they need another center? No. Do they need any more players that have a history of holdouts? No. Do they need another player that is labeled 'selfish'? Definitely not.

What you see with the Isles is what you get. There will be no more roster changes beyond final cuts and maybe a waiver draft addition/subtraction...

In the Comrie thread on the main board,Lanny MacDonald says Comrie wants to stay on the $4.5m salary range he was in last yr when he hit his bonus'.If that's true,then no the isles can't afford him.


One of the Oiler fans (Faceless Butcher),says Comrie wants $2m.

Its mostly speculation, he requested about $2.6 million(max u would have to pay) based on reporters info but of course thats negotiable and he will come down in price through negotiations. Also a reporter asked Lowe if he was asking for Brad Richards money(3yrs $9.25million) then he laughed and said no. $4.5 million is ridiculous there is no way he would ask for that much Lanny is a career Oiler's basher. I heard around 2 million before but apparently thats attached to a one year contract which few would sign as Comrie would be able to go for arbitration next year and possibly cost u a fortune.

becoming any big power forward. Hes far to soft, lazy and inconsistent to be anytype of big threat. What the Oiler fans saw when they got him last year is what they're gonna get if not worse. Remember he was probably pretty happy to be going back home and still playued very inconsistenly downt he stech. You'll get a get a a great game or so from him then he disappears far to much. With him there no inbetween he either very good which is only on occasion or just plain lazy which occurs to often.
