Philadelphia Flyers forward Vincent Lecavalier has been out for the past week already but he's going to miss a lot more time.

Lecavalier suffered a non-displaced fracture in his lower back and is going to miss 3-4 weeks. He was travelling with the team but the Flyers sent him back to Philadelphia on Sunday, GM Paul Holmgren announced.

"Vinny Lecavalier skated yesterday [Dec. 7] in Dallas. It is the team's decision this morning for Lecavalier to return to Philadelphia for further evaluation by our medical staff. It is undecided if he will join the team in Chicago."

Prior to the team's morning skate in Ottawa, the Flyers announced that they have placed center Vincent Lecavalier on Injured Reserve and recalled forward Tye McGinn from their AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms.

It was announced on Sunday that Lecavalier returned to Philadelphia in the middle of the team's 13-day road trip to have an MRI. Flyers GM Paul Holmgren stated that Lecavalier will miss 3-4 weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his lower back.

McGinn receives his third recall with the club and first since Nov. 2. He has three goals in six games with the Flyers this season while averaging 12:39 of ice time.

Prior to tonight's game at Columbus against the Blue Jackets, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren announced that forward Steve Downie will not be in the line-up.

Downie will also be out 7-10 days with an upper-body injury.

With Downie out of the line-up tonight, Vinny Lecavalier will return to action.

Well that sucks.

FreshPerspective 12-02-2013 11:57 AM

Gonna miss his "two way" play :sarcasm:

Actually, does kind of stink since we need offense but his faceoffs and D have been pretty subpar of late

FlyersFanz 12-02-2013 11:57 AM

That blows...bring up McGinn.

FlyersFan61290 12-02-2013 12:02 PM

That sucks, this should mean B Schenn will be back at center though. Unfortunately that means Raffl will have to be in the top 9 and Rosehill is in.

If he is going to miss any game this is one of the ones I would not mind too much, especially at even strength, he has been great offensively but very poor D, and Minny play a tight game, he seems to disappear when teams play like that ... though the PP will suffer without him. Would ofc rather have him in the lineup though. And the trickle down effect this has sucks.

Rafl - Schenn - Simmonds

Curufinwe 12-06-2013 12:10 PM

Out for Dallas so that will be at least three games missed.

1865 12-06-2013 12:49 PM

My brother warned us about this. He just misses 3/4 games at a time quite frequently.

Flyerss 12-07-2013 04:55 PM

if we didn't sign him we would be in some big troubles

RespectTheCouts 12-08-2013 08:35 AM

Vinny was sent back to Philly per ESPN to see more doctors about his back

RJ8812 12-08-2013 08:48 AM

Hopefully we rush him back because tht's always a good idea

This is the Sunday update:

Quote:

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren gave the following injury update with regards to center Vincent Lecavalier, early Sunday morning.

"Vinny Lecavalier skated yesterday (Dec. 7) in Dallas. It is the team's decision this morning for Lecavalier to return to Philadelphia for further evaluation by our medical staff. It is undecided if he will join the team in Chicago."

Lecavalier has been out of the lineup for the last three games (Minnesota, Detroit & Dallas) with back spasms, after scoring the deciding goal in the Flyers' 3-2 shootout win at Nashville on Nov. 30.

SuchySays 12-08-2013 09:33 AM

well, that sucks.

FlyersFan61290 12-08-2013 10:15 AM

Well I hope superstar gets a call. This team is missing offense and playing Raffl on the 2nd line and Rosehill and Rinaldo on the 4th is just stupid. Akeson is a point producer and Murray has great things to say about him, he even went as far as saying he thinks he's got an NHL future if given the opportunity.

At this point I'd settle for almost any phantom to get the call.

BringBackStevens 12-08-2013 10:45 AM

Not really a great start health wise for Vinny as a Flyer. This was the big risk at the time of the signing...

Curufinwe 12-08-2013 12:54 PM

At the time of the signing his only recent injuries had come when he was hit by pucks. A bad back injury could have happened to anyone on the team.

BackWithaVengeance 12-08-2013 03:41 PM

Is anyone really surprised the injury bug hits him since he plays for the Flyers ???

****in unbelievable.

Flyers' GM to update Lecavalier back issues about 5:15 tonight

SuchySays 12-08-2013 04:12 PM

we are boned if he's out long-term.

*crosses fingers.

1865 12-08-2013 04:17 PM

Will our luck never end?

chinatown81592 12-08-2013 04:18 PM

Welp. That sucks.

SuchySays 12-08-2013 04:18 PM

he has a ****ing broken back.. you've got to be kidding me

MiamiScreamingEagles 12-08-2013 04:20 PM

3-to-4 weeks.

edit:

Quote:

Vinny Lecavalier underwent an x-ray in Dallas, and the Flyers didn’t like what the images showed.

So, they shipped Lecavalier back to Philadelphia yesterday to undergo an MRI and have the results read by a team physician. They were equally discouraging.

Lecavalier will miss at least the next three to four weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his lower-back, according to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren. The injury was suffered late in the third period against Nashville on Nov. 30.

It apparently did not affect Lecavalier in the shootout, as he scored the Flyers’ only goal to help deliver an extra point with the assistance of Steve Mason.
