Has the emergence of Eric Gelinas and Jon Merrill in NJ made Larsson expendable ?

Devils would be looking for a young top 6 forward coming back and would likely turn down any low ball offer.

I don't want to move Adam I'm just bringing up the question.

elias026 12-08-2013 12:06 PM

no, why cant we have 3 young D's

we are gonna start trapping again with them instead of Marty, Stevens, Niedermyer and Daneyko we will have Schneider, Larsson, Gelinas and Merrill

Canadian Canuck 12-08-2013 12:08 PM

Larsson for shinkaruk and 1st

considering we are trying to get rid of gardiner cause we have rielly, if we aren't allowed to have 2 young puck movering dmen, you arent allowed to have 3 young dmen

Pierre Dagenais 12-08-2013 12:11 PM

Would be stupid to trade Larsson before Gelinas and Merrill can prove that they can keep it up for a whole season.

fudgeeo 12-08-2013 12:11 PM

Yes, send him to edmonton

Rob Nieds work ethic 12-08-2013 12:15 PM

because our best assets are defensemen

our defense is going to be very deep and we have great goaltending but we're being held back by our forwards

oconnor9sean 12-08-2013 12:38 PM

Larsson for Chiasson +

Yeah I'm really blown away when I look at you all's defensive depth. I feel good, not great about Dallas', but man it's pretty impressive to see who all is in the mix.

One guy I watch and quietly pray you guys will eventually have to move is Damon Severson. Dallas likes those WHL defenders. I wish he was already in the AHL. He's on 19 year old that seems like he's beyond WHL talent but obviously not ready for the NHL.

Poundcake 12-08-2013 12:52 PM

how about we just trade a KHLer with no contract next season for reece scarlett?

Teemu Hartikainen? Anton Slepyshev?

Synthetek 12-08-2013 12:59 PM

Cory Conacher and Colin Greening for Larsson. :D

BavelPure 12-08-2013 01:01 PM

I don't think this is just a good streak for Gelinas in his NHL debut... Kid is a stud, solid on D, good hands, heavy shot.

Severson and Santini in the pipe. Devils certainly have the chips on Defense to move one for a young forward.

Can we haz Jordan Eberle? No? OK then.

Really though, the emergence of Gelinas and Merrill haven't made Larsson expendable. They've made the likes of Mark Fayne & Bryce Salvador expendable.

I would have lumped Volchenkov in that but he's actually been playing well these past few games for us. However if anyone wants to take Peter Harrold off our hands...

As much as I like Santini, I was very disappointed that the Devils didn't take Petan in the draft. We are so shallow on offensive prospects and Nick Petan would have been a fantastic addition. Was excellent with the Winterhawks. 46 goals. 74 assists. Can any Jets fans tell me how he is progressing since being drafted by the Peg?

CB Joe 12-08-2013 01:14 PM

No. NJ needs to rebuild/retool. They should keep their very talented young players.

AfroThunder396 12-08-2013 01:23 PM

Absolutely not. You build around big, talented, mobile defensemen.

As said above though: this likely makes Zidlicky, Fayne, and Salvador expendable. I can see all three getting interest, New Jersey should trade at least one even if they're in the hunt.

Crede777 12-08-2013 02:24 PM

No such thing as an "expendable defenseman" who is "big, talented, and young on an ELC."

MichaelJ 12-08-2013 02:56 PM

Greene, Zids, Sal, Fayne and Volchenkov should all be on the move over the next year to year and a half. Larsson is still so young it would be foolish to move him. The development of Gelinas and Merrill has built a young nucleus, not made a potential stud movable. When the D looks like:

Gelinas-Larsson
Merrill-Santini
Helgeson-Severson..

...with Schneider in net we'll be in great shape and will have plenty of money to spend on forwards.

I'd rather see Lou make a few moves at the deadline to stockpile assets, then go into the offseason with caproom and picks/prospects to deal.

I think that favours Colorado, mostly due to contact reasons, having to qualify O'Reilly at $6.5 million I think diminishes his trade value substantially.

Canadian Jesus 12-08-2013 03:06 PM

Yakupov for Larsson straight up

aloonda* 12-08-2013 03:28 PM

would trade quite a bit for larsson--including chiasson

I'm a big Yak fan so I would do it
it's nothing against Larsson in any way but I just feel our forward depth is piss poor compared to our defensive depth

Why would we do this? Our defense is set for years, and Corrado is already knocking on the door. We haven't any need of Larsson, but we do have a need for Shinkaruk.
