Tor- NYI

To Toronto

John Tavares
Kevin Poulin

To NY Islanders

JVR
Nazem Kadri
Jake Gardiner
Jonathan Bernier

Why Toronto does this?

They finally get there #1 center they been looking for.

Why NY Islanders does this?

They get a great return for JT. They get 2 top 6 forwards + top 4 dman and there #1 goalie of the future.

thoughts?

This has recently been thoroughly discussed.

I wouldn't do this as a leafs fan... Tavares is and will be the best player in this trade, but this absolutely guts the leafs.

I can imagine isle fans not liking this either, Tavares is a special player.

Marshal Rochambeau 12-10-2013 06:04 PM

Just makes problems for everyone.

Sparksrus3 12-10-2013 06:05 PM

Tempting as it is , definitely a good offer, I might say yes as an isles fan. In 4 years he's yours for free so yes I say yes.

HooliganX2 12-10-2013 06:05 PM

The Leafs are not getting Taveras. Even if the value is good he's not a player you trade unless there are extreme external circumstances.

Avec Fromage* 12-10-2013 06:20 PM

This trade hurts the Leafs more than it helps.

tempest2i 12-10-2013 06:33 PM

Bad proposal is bad.

The Islanders need to get better. That means building a better team around JT, not moving him for pieces.

veedubn1 12-10-2013 06:33 PM

I'd do it if we can replace Naz with 1st. NYI still gets many solid pieces and Toronto isn't completely gutted.

Poochie the Dog 12-10-2013 06:34 PM

Value might not be too off but why would the Isles do this? JT is the face of their franchise I doubt he ever leaves NY.

Wanderson 12-10-2013 06:35 PM

JVR + Kadri for PMB + Bailey?

Sure. :)

Your proposal is just as bad as this one.

Wang is 1 and 1/2 yrs from his Brooklyn move. Hisnew lucrative lease has a stipulation ,that could see his yearly oayments reduced by the Barclays group.

Barclays execs and Wang have stressed the need for star power with the Brooklyn move Wang telling the Times that he will be competing with the NYR for tix buyers.

Imo the Vanek trade was made in part to add star power.

Please explain why Snow trades 23 yr old Tavares for several solid pieces?

SLAPSHOT723 12-10-2013 06:42 PM

No. Why don't Leafs fans get it? They're the only fanbase that consistently tries to get Tavares.

PhysicalGraffiti 12-10-2013 06:44 PM

Funniest proposal I've read in quite some time.

Thanks for the laugh.

They gotta keep the dream of having him come and save the franchise alive.

I don't know why the Leafs need "saving." I think they have a fine team - big strong wingers, excellent goaltending. Once Kadri develops and they stabilize the blueline, this is a real contender. I could really see the Leafs making a deep run this year, in fact.

That said, the constant obsession with the Island gets old. Maybe twice a week (and this is the second Tavares fantasy thread this week) A Leaf fan starts a thread centered around Tavares, one of other core young prospects (usually Strome), or a deal involving a dump of some contract (Liles, who is this year's Komi, who was last year's McCabe). Sometimes it is fun and silly, but it does get old.

SI90 12-10-2013 06:50 PM

This is getting sad. Tavares and Strome are not for sale. The best you might be able to get from nyi is Bailey and even him idk.

The truth is Tavares he's a young, a prototypical franchise center. Any team would be better to add him to their roster.

I don't blame Leafs fans for coveting Tavares, but the constant proposals on this board are certainly a little much.

Benedict Kovalchuk 12-10-2013 06:56 PM

When will Leafs fans figure out that trading Tavares is liking pulling the plug on the Islanders as a while? Just can't be done, regardless of the return. Trading him would set back the rebuild years and years.

While the proposal is not the best, there is a lot of value going both ways. Toronto says no due to the fact we don't have players who can fill the voided positions.

But I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a NYI/TML deal that included Tavares.

Maybe you don't spend much time on the board.

There are maybe two of those threads a week, usually getting closed by a mod.

Halpysback* 12-10-2013 07:30 PM

All the guys the Leafs lose could be replaced reasonably well compared to getting Tavares. Bernier is not really a loss with Reimer-Poulin, Tavares is a side upgrade on Kadri, JVR and Gardiner can be replaced (JVR harder but there are options out there). Leafs would do it without a 2nd thought.

Lupul Tavares Clarkson
Kulemin Bozak Kessel

Then guys like Erat and Seto could be traded for to fill out the top 6 more appropriately

Mapleleafs Fan* 12-10-2013 08:08 PM

Stammer comes before Tavares. I hope he refuses to re-sign in Tampa and joins Leafs.

CodeE 12-10-2013 08:15 PM

The last time I tried to tell Leaf fans there is absolutely no combination of players, picks, and prospects that could land them Tavares it wasn't heard.

Please just stop making these threads. They always go 7-8 pages too.

Renegade 12-11-2013 10:31 AM

Tavares is great, but not in this deal.

-JVR is our best player right now and the type of player we lack. No need to trade him.

-Kadri is our best centreman and potentially the #1 centre of the future.

-Jake Gardiner is also an excellent young player, and IMO a piece of our future core.

-Bernier has been amazing for us. No need to trade one of our goaltenders unless we get significant value for one of them. This is definitely not it.

Unless Reinhart or Strome are added, I don't see any reason the Leafs accept this.
