Subban's number

Do you think Subban will ever change his number 76 that he was assigned in his rookie year?

He wore number 6 in junior.

Also what current habs have changed their numbers in the past?
Plekanec (35 to 14), Boullion (51 to 55), Gallager (73 to 11), Desharnais (58 to 51) are the only ones that come to mind.

I think it'll be 76 from now on tbh

This might be coincidence but I believe his parents moved to Canada in 1976 so it could be to honour his parents in this regard.

JayKing 12-16-2013 09:04 PM

I like it :dunno:

I love it. When someone thinks of #76, I bet you PK is the guy that comes to mind first and not Darcy Verot.

I remember reading his dad was a huge Markov fan so maybe the 76 is to honor Markov? 79 with the "9" upside down becomes 76.

that would be nice

I'm more worried about Galchy switching to 94, cos I have his #27 jersey.

Me to. Just got his Jersey this season.

Knowing my luck he changes to 94 after his ELC contract expires.

Yozzy 12-17-2013 12:22 AM

Subban's too far to change my number IMO.

Galchenyuk looks unreal in 15.

15 is too Halpern/Nokelainen.

27 is perfect. He replaces Kovalev. Gallagher is replacing Koivu. 11-27. Everyone's happy.

SB164 12-17-2013 12:47 AM

I'm still hoping Galchenyuk changes his number to 94, looks better than 27.

Smokey Thompson 12-17-2013 02:29 AM

94 would be an awesome number for Galchenyuk in a year or two

If every beer league team I've ever played on or against, didn't have atleast one person wearing 69 maybe it wouldn't be quite as played out as it is. :sarcasm:

PricePkPatch* 12-17-2013 05:31 PM

He's the first, and will be the last to wear the 76 with the Habs.

I'm sure a lot of teams would veto that.

habs03 12-17-2013 05:40 PM

Subban won't change his jersey number nor will Galchenyuk.

Ship has already sailed.

Guys get random numbers at the start of their careers, and some ask to change it the next year when they made a legit spot for themselves on the team, some don't care.

Gallagher only changed because they gave Ryder his number, Galchenyuk would have switched this off season if he wanted 94. Bouillon left the team and when he came back 51 was taken by DD who only took that number after his rookie year.

After being given 42, Tinordi switched it during the summer to 24, I remember being mentioned that Beaulieu wants 6 when/if he becomes a regular.

Only person I see changing their jersey number on the current roster is Bournival, 49 is such an odd number, but he might not even care.

LW Sniper 12-17-2013 05:43 PM

Didn't he wear #76 in Hamilton too? He must like it.

Yeah he did. Its a pretty good number IMO. Unique.

I remember my sophomore yeah of high school hockey I had made the team as the backup goalie and the number I desperately wanted was #29 as I was a big Dryden fan, and had wore that number my entire life. Unfortunately for me, that number was already taken by the starting goalie. Instead, I was given #34. I really grew attached to that number over the season. So, the next season rolls around and I was promoted to the starting goalie position as the previous guy graduated and moved on, leaving the #29 open for the taking. Well, without even thinking twice about it I chose the #34 once again, and have worn that number ever since.

I assume many players are similar, or just don't care about numbers. Galchenyuk has had two solid seasons with the #27, so if he's a superstitious guy, I wouldn't be surprised if he stuck with it for at least a while longer. Hopefully he does, considering I just bought his jersey!!

Franck 12-18-2013 11:58 AM

I personally hate high numbers, but with the Habs they are pretty much unavoidable, unfortunately.

Someone should have informed the Sharks and the Capitals of that. Both have had players wearing the number.

Desjardins switched to #10 this year and Angelstad wore it for all of his 2 game career, so it's not exactly an enduring number.

Plus he did say "a lot of teams", not "all teams".

CanadianSharks 12-18-2013 12:35 PM

76 is nice.

No Team Needed 12-19-2013 09:32 AM

I think all of Montreal's D should wear a number in the 70's
