Theo Fan's "A word to the wise"

Ya know, it's quite possible the post-CBA Rangers could be a successful team and constant playoff contender, resembling nothing of the past 7 seasons. Don't underestimate the power of this new NHL landscape. With so many players in new homes and the talent spread all over the league, it's not far fetched at all that teams like the Rangers could make a complete 180 and be highly competitive club, and teams like Detroit or Philadelphia (just as examples, don't start telling me who has who because you'll be missing the point.) could struggle to even make the playoffs. As far as I'm concerned, this season coming up is going to be a completely clean slate for all 30 teams.

So point being, let's settle down abit after if and when the Rangers sign this UFA or those UFAs and start crying "It's the same old same old". I recognize Sather's potential to **** things up just as much as anybody else, but fact of the matter is the day the NHL reopened it's doors, nothing's the same old same old.

Theo Fan, you are right about it being a new playing field, however this new playing may allow us to sign younger UFAs next year and the year after who will still be in their prime 5 or more years from now.

That is why some of us are afraid of Sather messing up and locking up future cap space.

If the organization was starting fresh--with a new management team, I would be in heaven. However, we are still dealing with the people who got us to this point and it is far to early to believe they they will be any more able to negotiate the new NHL any better than they did in the past.

the 'new nhl' landscape that everyone is talking about is gonna look a lot like the old nhl landscape next year...things aren't gonna change that drastically that quickly.
