Great news. This is going to be the best tournament to watch prospect wise in a while.

Broad Street Elite 12-19-2013 09:18 AM

Now we just need Stolarz to overtake Gillies in net for Team USA.

Curufinwe 12-19-2013 09:19 AM

I'm glad he got another year playing for London. It seems to have worked out pretty well for him.

StoneHands 12-19-2013 09:25 AM

It's pretty impressive given the names on that squad.

flyershockey 12-19-2013 09:32 AM

I'm actually not all that in love with him being named Captain. I mean don't get me wrong, it's a great honor and a testament to his leadership, but it's a lot of pressure on a guy who's only making his first appearance at the WJC. It will be a real sink or swim scenario.

DrinkFightFlyers 12-19-2013 09:34 AM

That is awesome news. Just out of curiosity, who were the last couple captains? I imagine being the Canadian team, he is in very good company.

dingbathero 12-19-2013 09:37 AM

Came here to post this.

I am excited for Boxing day to see a game on TV. HUGE up here in Canada. Tradition.

edit: To those that may question or aren't keen on it. He is a BORN leader.

Off the top of my head I know Richards was the one year & I'm pretty sure Brayden Schenn was during his last year of eligibility, I could be wrong on the last one though.

RNH was it last year iirc.

Yeah I didn't feel too confident in Schenn, he was up there in all time scoring in this tournament though.

While not as super-star-studded as I had thought, that is still an impressive list. Pretty much everyone on that list is an impact NHL regular.

BobbyClarkeFan16 12-19-2013 09:56 AM

Love it. As for the pressure on Laughton's shoulders, these are the types of situations that he absolutely thrives in. I expect him to have a monster tournament. He might not be the leading scorer on the club, but I certainly expect him to be Team Canada's most important forward.

It's possible. Don Lucia has already said that he's having an open tryout and that Gillies isn't a lock to be the starter.

Flyotes 12-19-2013 10:03 AM

This is great news. Seems he's been a leader virtually everywhere he has played.

He was a pretty highly regarded prospect during his junior years, I mean he was taken 8th overall his draft year.

Wow. Very exciting news, happy for Laughton!

This, nice for Laughton but I hope he loses. Silver would be fine I suppose as long as USA has the gold.

JVR21 12-19-2013 10:35 AM

Hopefully Canada loses due to bad goaltender performance, because I can't root against Laughton.

CanadianFlyer88 12-19-2013 10:42 AM

Good for Laughton.

laundryman 12-19-2013 11:07 AM

I am getting more and more excited about this kid. Flyers picked a good one
