Teams interested in Tuomo Ruutu

Tuomo Ruutu's name has again surfaced as a trade target. Canes forward might draw some interest as teams approach the Olympic break.

Somehow I doubt this very much.

Mike Jones 01-12-2014 01:19 PM

These have to be teams looking ahead to reaching the cap floor next season.

Kulleroinen* 01-12-2014 01:20 PM

Some salary retained and I hope Oilers will be bidding on him. :)

Nuckles 01-12-2014 01:23 PM

The only way I see a team wanting Ruutu is if they're sending an equally bad contract to Carolina.

Vitto79 01-12-2014 01:26 PM

Sure bad contract for bad contract type deal

McCombo 01-12-2014 01:30 PM

Could it be something like Ruutu+pick for Gagner...?

Why would the Oilers add another winger?

DaveG 01-12-2014 01:31 PM

yeah I'm as confused by anyone about this. Guess JR wants to take the fact that he's finally had a not-terrible month and might have found a taker?

Ruutu + Peters maybe?

OrioleWay 01-12-2014 01:32 PM

Ruutu for Stafford is the only deal i could imagine.

Probably somethng with Columbus /Kekäläinen connection/ or with Edmonton.

Bourne Endeavor 01-12-2014 01:33 PM

Gillis I swear to god, no more high salaried reclamation projects.

If they retain salary, maybe?

I probably wouldn't be opposed to a Booth for Ruutu + draft pick swap, but the draft pick would probably need to be at least a 3rd round pick to interest the Canucks since Ruutu has a higher cap hit and is signed for one more year. His buyout in the off-season would cost the Canucks $3.5M more than a Booth buyout, more than double.

But then again there is the risk of Ruutu getting injured towards the end of the season preventing us from using a compliance buyout on him, meaning we're stuck with a $4.75M cap hit for two more seasons as opposed to only one more year of Booth.

Hemsky will be gone, I'd rather have Ruutu on our third line than him.

Sonny21 01-12-2014 01:51 PM

Translation: I want to trade this player and I will make an obvious attempt to pretend other teams are interested in the hopes we find a sucker to trade for him.

These insiders work for the gm's, agents and etc.

Why?

I think the Oilers have much larger issues that don't require adding a 4.75M AAV third line winger.

That makes as much sense as detailing my truck while the house is burning down around me.

Dreger's not connected to JR though as far as I know. Bob MacKenzie, yes, but that's another matter entirely.

You don't have to be distant cousins to be connected, how would any of us know who's connected to who?

De Montreal 01-12-2014 01:56 PM

Tuomo Ruutu 4,75M cap hit, two years left including this season - 12 points in 40 games
Rene Bourque 3,33M cap hit, three years left including this season - 7 points in 34 games

Is a swap possible?

OrioleWay 01-12-2014 01:58 PM

Booth for Ruutu is not possible. We prefer to keep Ruutu, at least he could bring some grit to the table.

Oilers need quality over quantity in net(and everywhere else).

Bryz, Dubnyk, Bachman...

I wonder the same thing. Maybe Habs would have to add a prospect or a pick? Btw, was Ruutu in the Hawks organization when Bergevin was there?

SoupyFIN 01-12-2014 02:04 PM

What line(s) has Ruutu played this season?

DumbaTrain 01-12-2014 02:06 PM

Dany Heatley.
