Philadelphia Daily News:

Underneath, his two middle fingers were taped together and held up by a splint, the result of a third period slash that could keep the Flyers’ top line right wing out of the lineup on Tuesday night against Carolina.

Voracek left Monday afternoon’s shootout loss in the third period after being slashed. It was unclear exactly who on the Islanders slashed him, but a television camera angle apparently showed Voracek’s strangely bent finger being examined by a team trainer.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- At least Jakub Voracek was smiling.

The Flyers' high-flying right winger took a slash on the left hand during Monday’s stunning 4-3 shootout collapse by the Flyers against the Islanders (see Instant Replay).

Voracek left the game in the third period after Cal Clutterbuck rapped his hand and although he did return in the final 5:57, he sat on the bench.

“I didn’t play a shift,” he said.

That was all he was allowed to say. General manager Paul Holmgren said Voracek would be re-evaluated when the team returned to Philadelphia.

The Flyers host Carolina on Tuesday. Voracek’s loss would be huge. He has nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points in his last 19 games.

“We’re not sure yet,” coach Craig Berube said. “It’s a loss for sure. He’s a good player and one of our better players. So it’s going to be a loss if he’s out. That happens. People have to step up and play.”

Voracek, who played just two minutes in the third period, skates on the top line with Claude Giroux and Michael Raffl.

Bucks County Courier Times (Wayne Fish):

Quote:

Holmgren declined to comment further on the injury as did Voracek.

“Sorry guys, can’t talk,’’ is all Voracek would offer.

Voracek was seen leaving the dressing room after the game, perhaps to have an X-ray taken. He did manage to carry a small personal bag in his injured hand, but as he left the building, he had his hand stuck firmly in his suitcoat pocket in what looked like a protective fashion.

If there is a significant injury, it would certainly be a blow to the Flyers. Voracek has been coming on offensively of late. He now has 14 goals and is the team’s third-leading point-getter with 35.

Voracek has four goals in his last six games.

January 21 update:

Voracek was to take part in the pregame (now canceled) skate.

Shootouts suck.

Karma 01-20-2014 03:00 PM

Emery is worse than Bryz in a shootout. Holy ****ing ****.

SolidSnakeUS 01-20-2014 03:00 PM

****ing hate, HATE the shootouts. **** off with that ****...

Flyerss 01-20-2014 03:00 PM

Downie and Coburn never learn same stupid **** over and over and over it will never end

Beef Invictus 01-20-2014 03:01 PM

Neither goalie was good.

Emery's immobility was masked all game, but holy crap did we get a reminder in the shootout.

TheKingPin 01-20-2014 03:01 PM

This team is so frustrating

Shootouts are pure torture.

Should have never went to a SO in the first place.

Players are lucky they have a back to back.

Deserve a couple hours of suicides.

biron is WOAT when it comes to shootouts lol. He would just compact his body when skating backwards into the net.

4thline4life 01-20-2014 03:02 PM

Pretty bad watching the team coast through the third with only a 2 goal lead. Absolutely no effort in the third. Undisciplined play to call it off. Downie can sit the rest of the year. Hes useless.

Legion of Gloom 01-20-2014 03:02 PM

We are lucky to get one point

I hope Jake is OK

TheKingPin 01-20-2014 03:03 PM

There better be multiple changes in the lineup after that. Berube seems to be inept with those moves

He is having to cheat on his movement... like rest an arm on his leg and help it push while crouched! He had no chance, he did not get near any of the 3 that went in.

But he did get them there.

JDinkalage Morgoone 01-20-2014 03:03 PM

Shootouts: I hate em!

LegionOfDoom91 01-20-2014 03:04 PM

Downie is a total plug, we need to get rid of him ASAP.

SolidSnakeUS 01-20-2014 03:04 PM

I honestly think Vinny should be scratched. Unless Voracek is out for a while, then we can't afford to...

Adam Hall and Raffl are the only other Flyers with a better career shooting % than Vinny.

Vinny's been pretty clutch in the shootout and he's got some of the best hands on the team (especially since Jake doesn't do shootouts I guess).

But wow is Emery bad in shootouts.. That was really pathetic. At least he got us the first point. Islanders tore us up at the end there.

DrinkFightFlyers 01-20-2014 03:05 PM

Ugh, shootouts. I would have rather just lost in OT.

Get rid of shootouts and go back to ties.

Appleyard 01-20-2014 03:05 PM

Vinnys shootout attempt was pretty hilarious.

Like he was auditioning for celebrity dancing on ice...

ugiswrong 01-20-2014 03:06 PM

Seems like the Flyers took their afternoon nap during the game
