Why the heck did Dallas protect Pierre Turgeon?

Habber 10-01-2003 11:47 AM

I took a quick look at unprotected guys around the league and it's pretty slim pickings. TO left Travis Green and Josh Holden unprotected. An upgrade over Dackell?

A few notables:
-Cujo is unprotected
-Pavel Bure is unprotected
-Dallas protected Turgeon

You can't Lose more than one dman at the waivers draft!

Montreal hope thats someone will take Dykhuis or Traverse before Beauchemin!

picasso 10-01-2003 11:47 AM

I can not understand why Juneau got protected while Beauchemin is not. I think nobody would have taken Juneau ( I some foolish had, we would all have been happy!!) and I am convinced we will lose Beauchemin. It is the same kind of mistake we did last year with the small defenceman who is now with the Stars (I forgot his name). The are two good defensemen lost for nothing...

Komisaruis 10-01-2003 11:49 AM

The Only guy's can be interesting for the habs Was Eric Boulton if organisation think than dwyer can't do the job!

Not true. You can't lose more than three players or one goalie. There's no stipulations about losing d men.

We lost both Robidas and Bouillon last year, they can take as many defensemen as they want.

danboulie 10-01-2003 12:03 PM

I really dislike the fact that Beauchemin is unprotected.
I think they should have left either Juneau or Dackell unprotected instead of Beachy!

Marksman 10-01-2003 12:05 PM

Wheres Michael Ryder. I though he wasnt waiver exempt?

Anyone know what Travis Green makes? He could be useful as a checking line center....

BigM1ke 10-01-2003 12:08 PM

Brian Savage is unprotected with Phoenix

MontrealCruiser_83* 10-01-2003 12:12 PM

Ronald Petrovicky?
Todd Harvey?
Ivan Novoseltsev?

.... Thoughts?

BigM1ke 10-01-2003 12:29 PM

Travis Green is the one I would pick...

I also don't understand the logic in protecting Juneau and Dackell over Beauchemin?

Green made $1.5 mil last year. But he's 32. Probably a move in the wrong direction. Would rather have Ward or Ryder playing.

BigM1ke 10-01-2003 01:55 PM

Green is in the same division so we can't take him.. That's what Yvon Pedneault said today at RDS.

gunnerdom 10-01-2003 01:57 PM

Go get Claude Lemieux!

Wildcat 10-01-2003 02:00 PM

The same division rule only applies in the first round.

Blunt182 10-01-2003 02:13 PM

From RDS....

"C'est ainsi que ces 11 joueurs prennent le chemin de Hamilton, et à l'exception de Benjamin Carpentier, Alexander Perezhogin et Jonathan Ferland, ils peuvent tous être sélectionnés vendredi lors du repêchage intra-ligue"

Why are they saying that Carpentier, Perezhogin and Ferland can be picked up in the waiver draft????

Actually it says they can't be picked up.. "All of them can, except for Carpentier, Perezhogin, and Ferland, can be picked up." would be my translation.
