Jets Audio - March 7th (Coach from IcePlex)

http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...14-300x167.jpg

Coach Maurice - Intending on staying with the same lineup? Liked what he saw with the group? Seeing the success of LA, is that what he’s trying to bring to this team? Has the team lost some of the momentum they carried into the break? Frolik’s move to centre. Hard to ask a guy to move position at this point in season? What does he need from Setoguchi down the stretch? Thoughts on Ottawa. What does he know about John Albert? Keys to being better in transition game.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Kane eager to get back at ‘er. It hasn’t been an easy season for the young winger due to injuries but he is clearly excited to get back into the lineup and add his skills to coach Maurice pool of talent.

Winnipeg Sun: Montoya says U.S. hockey taking the lead. Do you agree with the native of Chicago? Paul also covers Pavelec’s return after a less than stellar Olympics and sick bay updates.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...ya-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Paul Maurice, Jets haven’t talked long-term contract. Cannot ask for a more direct response from the Jets bench boss than that. Certainly an unexpected answer but an answer nonetheless.

CBC: Jets give big props to Jennifer Jones. Always nice to see the team taking pride in the achievements of our local Olympians.

IceCaps news:

Newfoundland and Labrador Compass: Learning from the IceCaps in Bay Roberts. Always great to see players at any level giving back to their community.

Sochi 2014:

Globe and Mail: Canadian women’s hockey team wins Olympic gold with stunning comeback.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets fired up, doubled over. Cannot always be sunshine and lollipops. Coach Maurice is running a tight ship.

Winnipeg Free Press: Pavelec, Frolik expected back with Jets today. Many are questioning the fragility of goalie Ondrej Pavelec and how he will respond to a tough Olympics.

http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...ng-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: No golden moments for Jets’ Olympians. Olli Jokinen had more impact in the semifinals than Blake Wheeler did but both will face off for the opportunity to win a Bronze medal today.

IceCaps news:

TSN: Klingberg scores twice as IceCaps topple Sharks. Two wins in a row for St. John’s and they are sitting in 5th place in the East, tied with Hershey (4th) in points in the East. Of course Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins sits in 9th spot just two points back.

The Telegram: Busy weekend for IceCaps. The AHL is quite a grind and these guys are playing three games in three days. Last night they won big and have another game against Worcester before they take on Portland on Sunday.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Ellerby, Jets tune in Canada’s golden game. When your second cousin is playing in the big game you are likely going to be even more invested in watching.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets take to The Forks, warm up the place. Always nice to give fans a chance to witness something unique and practicing on the river in -28 degree weather would certainly qualify.

Winnipeg Free Press: Czechs leave soap opera behind. It was a bizarre Olympic games for the two Czech Jets and not one they are likely to look back on too fondly.

Winnipeg Sun: Fans freeze to watch Jets practise at Forks. Nice opportunity for the kids to get on the ice against their heroes.

Winnipeg Sun: Ladd gives Canada game a pass. Count me as someone who is happy to have gotten up to watch the game. While it certainly wasn’t a Gold medal game with the same drama as 2010 it certainly was enjoyable to watch Canada put on the display that they did.

IceCaps news:

TSN: IceCaps use five-goal third period to defeat the Pirates. A huge 3rd period and St. John’s has now ripped off four wins in a row. The team is sitting 4th in the Eastern Conference and next play on Friday, February 28th against Binghamton.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Eager Jets dismiss notion of Oly hangover. Then Jets fans should be thankful that the only Olympian who was heavily used was Olli Jokinen.

Winnipeg Sun: Some Jets step it up while others take step back. Interesting bit of analysis looking at which players step up as the season comes closer to a conclusion.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...ce-300x200.jpg

Coach Maurice - Injury update. Getting those players into the lineup. Re-starting the momentum from before the break. His approach to the trade deadline. Has his focus changed? Any revelations over the break? Status of Wheeler and Jokinen. Olympic impact on Wheeler? Maintaining same lineup from St. Louis game into the Phoenix game.

February 26th

Note: Tune into NHL Mid-Week with Illegal Curve starting at 6 pm on TSN 1290 Winnipeg.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets’ sick bay empty, but not a lot of change on bench. Coaches are usually loathe to change a winning formula so it isn’t that surprising that coach Maurice isn’t ready to make wholesale changes to his lineup.

Winnipeg Free Press: Wheels still inflated by Olympics. The Jets are going to need his enthusiasm to remain this high as they make a push for their first postseason in Winnipeg.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...wm-300x139.jpg

Winnipeg Free Press: Culture Club. Is it finally here? Have the Jets developed that coveted culture of winning that we have heard discussed for quite some time?

Winnipeg Sun: Deal or no deal for Jets? Once again the Jets find themselves in a precarious position as we approach the trade deadline. Do they sell off assets as they continue to develop for the future or do they keep those moveable pieces (Setoguchi, Jokinen, Stuart as well as three other UFAs) and risk losing them this summer? Which would you like to see?

Winnipeg Sun: Olympic experience invigorates Wheeler for playoff push. He accepted a limited role in the Olympics but he won’t have to concern himself with being used in a limited fashion here in Winnipeg. The team is going to be relying on him big time as they make a push for the playoffs.

Westman Journal: Coach Paul Maurice has given Winnipeg Jets’ fans hope. He certainly turned up the heat on bench bosses across the league who team’s are struggling.

Metro News: Jets mainly lagged at Winter Olympics. It wasn’t a banner tournament for the four players who went as only Olli Jokinen returned with some hardware but it was an experience that should prove invaluable for all four who went to Russia.

I'm too lazy to listen to the whole thing again to find the byte, but did PMo use the term "Latvian Performance" as nickname for an outstanding game by a goaltender?

If so, that's awesome, and I hope it sticks.

"What did you think about Montoya's play tonight in earning that shutout"

"He was beyond outstanding tonight, he was downright Latvian."

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: What’s next in Jetsville? Ed looks at ten questions that need answering as we officially kick off the last 22 games of the season.

Winnipeg Free Press: Pushing for the post-season. While their recent success has been nice to energize the fan base this team still has a mountain to climb before they reach the promised land.

Winnipeg Sun: Jokinen still savouring bronze medal. He has been all smiles since Team Finland knocked off Team USA and with good reason. He said he could play four or five more years (including another Olympics potentially) but will it be with the Winnipeg Jets or will he be dealt? What would you like to see?

Winnipeg Sun: Jets tired of missing NHL post-season. Fact is this team has not had the type of success that they expect of themselves and we are about to see what this team is made of. Will they have the fortitude to rip off enough wins to get them over the hump?

Winnipeg Sun: Spotlight about to shine brighter on Jets goalies. The pressure is on and any failing is going to be seized upon by a base that is less than pleased with the #1 goalie in-between the pipes.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...ce-300x200.jpg

Globe and Mail: Youngsters Trouba and Schiefele show maturity as Jets enter playoff push. Neither of these two are playing like rookies and both are going to be relied upon heavily as the team tries to push towards a playoff spot.

Illegal Curve: Coach Maurice scrum (audio). What is he hoping Evander Kane can do for this club? His thoughts on his goalies. Expect to ride one down the stretch? Expecting too much from the goalies? What would be like his roster post trade deadline to look like? One game at a time mentality now? His expectation of his team tomorrow night against Phoenix. Having a bunch of home games left. What does he expect from his rookies as season winds down? How does he breakdown the season? Can he get the positive experience for Jokinen to rub off on his team? Trade deadline talk.

Coyotes news:

Arizona News: Major deal unlikely for Phoenix Coyotes’ playoff push. With less than a week to go before the deadline and with so many teams on the cusp a playoff spot it should be interesting to see what teams do. Appears Coyotes won’t be making any big moves which is usually the smart choice at the deadline.

Jets news:

TSN Radio 1290: Rona Roundtable (audio). Hustler and Rick speak with Jets forward Matt Halischuk today. Spoke about his recovery and getting back into a routine.

NHL.com: Jets regain services of Kane, Slater for playoff push. Not a moment too soon. While the Jets have been doing well they are going to need these two guys to help turn on the afterburners.

Winnipeg Free Press: Roster returns to full strength for game against Coyotes. While the lineup is finally healthy, coach Maurice didn’t sound like someone who was planning on making many moves yesterday following practice. In fact, the lines at yesterday’s practice saw Kane returning to his 2nd line spot with Thorburn heading back to the 4th line and that looked like the only moves that were going to be made. Today it changed and Jim Slater is in at centre on the 4th line.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...ce-300x179.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Slater returns to the lineup. And he is bringing his faceoff acumen to a team that could use it as the team currently sits a solid 30th in the league.

CBC: 5 things to watch as Jets host Coyotes. Jeff looks at a few topics in advance of tonight’s game including; 1) Hunting Season, 2) Pushing for the Playoffs, 3) Buyers or Sellers, 4) Clean slate and 5) Post-Olympic Stress Disorder.

TSN: Jets open crucial post-Olympic stretch versus Coyotes. Brian gives his thoughts before the game.

Illegal Curve: Coach Maurice pre-game scrum (audio). What Slater is bringing to this team. What changed his mind about getting Slater into the lineup? Importance of Slater’s faceoff circle prowess. Increased confidence in this team since his arrival? Where has he seen the most growth in this team? Concern team might fall back to an old mindset (in terms of being in playoff race). What is his comfort level with this team? Setting the tone down the stretch.

February 28th (Papers)

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Happy returns boost offence. From a coaching standpoint it had to be nice to finally have all the pieces of the puzzle on the ice at once. While neither Kane nor Slater were at 100% they both help this team in areas that are critical for success down the road.

Winnipeg Free Press: Stuart a solid rock to build on. There is no doubt that Stuart is a character guy. He clearly likes playing in Winnipeg and believes in the future of this squad. Do you think the Jets move him before the Wednesday deadline?

Winnipeg Free Press: Right way to start after break. While it is always important to pick up two points you have to hope that giving up one to a team that has two games in hand won’t come back to bite you later. Especially when you consider that both Dallas and Minnesota picked up clean wins.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets grind it out. It wasn’t the prettiest victory but at the end of the day coach Maurice will take the two points and move his focus to the next game against the Preds. Paul also looks at the success of the Olympians last night, the giveaway that led to Little’s goal, the Jets old ways, Bizzarro world and a Gold medal thrill.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...op-300x200.jpg

CBC: Jets win in ‘slugfest’ over Coyotes. It certainly wasn’t a pretty game by any stretch of the imagination.

TSN: Jets pick up crucial points in SO win over Coyotes. Dennis assess the win from his point of view high above the ice surface.

IceCaps news:

Note III: For away games we have our #ICGWG contest. Make sure to @ tweet @illegalcurve with your guess. Remember that for your vote to qualify you must send in your guess using a hashtag (#). (i.e. #ICGWG Trouba).

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Pavelec a Punching Bag—Ondrej Pavelec has been under the microscope all season long, and that will only increase as the team plays key games during the playoff stretch drive.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets optimistic, have eye on wildcard spot. There are no easy games in this league and you have to think that the Predators are going to be gunning to pick up two critical points at home.

Winnipeg Sun: Pavelec’s net presence. Plenty of debate raging on both sides of the divide as to whether or not Pavelec is a number one goalie. Coach Maurice takes the approach one expects from a head coach. Kirk also looks Slater’s conditioning, mistaken identity between Scheifele/Byfuglien and standing pat with 4th line.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...m1-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Competitive spirit. Going to be some pressure on the 4th line because there are some alternatives for coach Maurice to draw from right now.

Global Winnipeg: Pavelec still not fan of shootout. At least he is consistent….in his disdain for the shootout. Despite recent success he hasn’t changed his position in favour of the shootout.

Illegal Curve: Coach Maurice scrum (audio). Fiddle with the lineup? Challenges presented by Nashville. Rhythm of playing every second day. Having Kane and Slater back in the lineup. 4th line talk. Shootout strategy. Play of Ondrej Pavelec his growth and the criticism he faces. Talk about Pavelec’s numbers.

Predators news:

The Tennessean: Pekka Rinne makes first rehab start with Milwaukee. Talk about a walk in the park as he won easily in his conditioning stint down on the farm. Jets fans have to be happy they aren’t facing him today.

The Tennessean: Predators face big test. The Preds are looking at this game as an opportunity to jump back into the playoff race as they await the return of Pekka Rinne.

Winnipeg Free Press: Rinne Soon to Return—The Nashville Predators have kept themselves in the playoff discussion despite being without their all-world goaltender for a bulk of the NHL season. Will his imminent return be enough to propel them into the playoffs?

IceCaps news:

The Telegram: IceCaps down B-Sens for fifth win in a row. St. John’s continues their impressive streak as they won rather handily last night. The teams will meet again tonight at Mile One Centre.

http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...14-300x169.jpg

Coach Maurice - Injury update on Wright, Setoguchi & Enstrom (being assessed/flu/Maintenance). All the banged up Jets yesterday. On a good roll but still raising the bar. The Ellerby/Pardy tandem. On Jets penalty troubles. Thoughts on his line changes (“gonna see some movement on our left wing”)

To listen click here.

----------------------------------

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: For Jets’ penalty kill, it’s a case of practice makes perfect. They are way more aggressive on the penalty kill. In addition to using speedy players like Wheeler and Kane it has changed the way the team kills penalty and they now sit sixth in the NHL. Helped that Pavelec was on his game yesterday.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...ve-300x155.jpg

Winnipeg Free Press: Can you say ‘playoffs?’. If you are unable to do so there are plenty of fans who are currently counting their chickens. Still not going to be easy but if the team keeps winning they are going to put themselves into a very good position.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets earn separation in standings with big win over Predator. Always important to put as much distance as you can between yourself and the teams trying to catch you. A clean two points certainly doesn’t hurt.

TSN: Jets’ penalty kill a potent and valuable weapon. From high above the ice surface at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Dennis assess the Jets win.

The Tennessean: Postgame thoughts. Always good to read the assessment by the other side and Josh gives his thoughts on the loss and what it means to the Predators.

Manitoba Hockey News: Should I stay or should I go? Maurice holds chips in contract situation. Scott offers some thoughts on what could be holding up the Jets getting the name of their temporary bench boss on a shiny, new contract.

Jets 3 Predators 1:

Coach Maurice post-game. Following the win, coach met with the media to talk about the game, his goalie and more.

ICdave 03-03-2014 01:53 PM

March 3rd

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Hockey gods smiling on Jets. The Jets are 7-2-1 in their last ten games but yet are still finding it tough to truly make a dent in the standings. The Stars, Jets and Canucks are all tied with 66 points with the Coyotes (65) and Predators (62) also in the mix for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Wild are in 7th with 73 points which makes them likely too tough to be caught. However the Jets players speak with a confidence about making a serious run at the post-season so you can expect a wild push for the playoffs.

Winnipeg Free Press: Ready for anything. With the Jets in so tight with so much hockey left to play it is going to be an interesting couple of days as we lead up to the trade deadline on Wednesday. Do you think the Jets make a move? Will they deal a UFA? What would you like to see happen?

Winnipeg Sun: NHL vagabonds Pardy, Ellerby have found home on Jets’ blue-line. Boring is probably not a problem for coach Maurice when he thinks of his third defensive pairing. Steady and mistake free is likely all he would want from these two.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...in-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Jets need to tighten up for playoff push. There is no question this team can continue to improve as it seems coach Maurice indicates in every presser. That isn’t to say he isn’t happy with what the team has accomplished but simply that they can continue to get better.

Illegal Curve: Coach Maurice scrum. Injury update on Wright, Setoguchi & Enstrom (being assessed/flu/Maintenance). All the banged up Jets yesterday. On a good roll but still raising the bar. The Ellerby/Pardy tandem. On Jets penalty troubles. Thoughts on his line changes (“gonna see some movement on our left wing”)

IceCaps news:

Labradorian: Hutchinson gives IceCaps, fans a reason to smile. With goalie Eddie Pasquale having season ending hip surgery today the IceCaps needed someone to step up and Michael Hutchinson has done exactly that since the #1 went down.

WHL news:

The Prince George Citizen: Cougars sold to investors, sources say. In the article (which we got via Patrick Williams, NHL.com) it says that Winnipeg could be a possible destination. Bears watching. Update: Via Jim Toth "Just got word from #TNSE regarding this article of specualtive move of #WHL franchise to WPG. is "100% False again"

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets in perfect harmony. Hard to start breaking up this group and selling off the pieces when the team is in the midst of a playoff chase.

Winnipeg Free Press: Don’t expect Chevy to make any major deadline moves. Tim and Ed give you six reasons why you might not want to get too excited over the trade deadline.

Winnipeg Free Press: Ice any idea of WHL’s Kootenay franchise coming to ‘Peg. Guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets try not to think about trade deadline. Easy to say, not quite as easy to do. While the players only have until Wednesday at 2 pm cst to worry about it, you can bet that they are going to be hounded until then about the potential of being shipped out of town.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...up-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Jets could end up becoming buyers, not sellers, at trade deadline. I wouldn’t envy the position of GM Cheveldayoff right now. He speaks about development and drafting so how does he break away from this mentality when his fan base is screaming to win and win now? With the Jets now a little farther from a playoff spot than they were on Sunday (Dallas beat Buffalo 3-2 last night) will Chevy make moves to try and help this team secure that 8th spot or will he trade his assets (Jokinen, Setoguchi) for the long term future of this team? What would you do?

Winnipeg Sun: Maurice ready for anything as trade deadline approaches. While I’m sure coach Maurice respects the long term vision of GM Cheveldayoff, a coach’s job is to win and win now. This means that while he knows the team is wanting to build for the future, he has to live in the present.

CBC: 5 Things to Watch. Jeff gives you five things to be aware of as the Jets get set to take on the Islanders tonight at the MTS Centre including; 1) not exactly paradise, 2) gaining ground, 3) who needs Johnny, Islanders do, 4) Deadline looming and 5) Mo's milestone.

CBC: Jets players wearing locally made hockey skates. Who knew that there was a made in Manitoba product being worn by the Winnipeg Jets!

TSN 1290 Winnipeg: Hustler Lawless (audio). Hustler had a chance to catch-up with Mark Stuart talking about the push for the playoffs and the upcoming trade deadline.

Illegal Curve: Coach Maurice scrum (audio). Update on status of James Wright (Ankle Sprain – out indefinitely) Tomorrow’s lineup. Status of Tangradi (day to day). Avoiding being sellers at deadline. Hard to ignore the UFAs on this team (“All playing tomorrow”). How does the trade deadline impact players? Getting the group to be more confident in their abilities. Shots against/discipline. Having a young team and not getting calls.

Islanders news:

Newsday: Vanek hints that he might have accepted deal had Isles been playoff-bound. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the future that Islanders fans would want to hear.

Newsday: Hamonic suffers suspension for sticking up for teammate. The Manitoba product will be available to play in his home province as he served the one-game suspension on Sunday. Looks for the usual fireworks between him and Evander Kane who have quite the history.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets focus on keeping streak alive, not trade deadline. No point in worrying about things outside of your control. All the players and coach can do is focus on the game and attempt to keep their win streak alive.

Note: Today is the day everyone has been waiting for as NHL Trade Deadline day is finally here! Will the Jets be buyers, sellers or will they stand pat? Stay tuned to illegalcurve.com all day long and be sure you are following us on twitter @illegalcurve to ensure you hear all the Jets related news.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Scheifele’s recovery looms over Jets as trade deadline approaches. When the Jets brass saw their rookie centre on the ice in pain the day before the deadline they must have been just as quickly on their knees praying it wasn’t too serious. If the rookie is out for any significant length of time the Jets chances of making the playoffs will be seriously impacted.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...wn-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Free Press: Looking on the bright side. Who knew that the Jets were a team of optimists!! Plenty of positivity in the dressing room and considering the game they played and the fact that they stole a single point, perhaps it makes sense. Ed also looks at what the OT loss means, Scheifele’s potential injury, Ladd’s play and big vs. small picture.

Winnipeg Free Press: No fan of deadline day. To see a lineup that is still pretty new to you, get potentially all mixed up, is probably not what a coach ever wants.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets dangling Seto, Thorbs in front of Sharks? Appears the Setoguchi experiment in Winnipeg might be over but will this also be the final day of fan favourite Chris Thorburn? Gary also discusses the latest on Mark Stuart and his desire to stay in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Sun: Ken’s Notebook. Plenty of news to digest in the OT loss and Ken breaks down the game in pretty good detail for you.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...om-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Feeling the pressure of playoff push. The team was taking the positive from the loss in OT as they continue to try and gain ground on the teams ahead of them. A Dallas loss helped but the Jets let a big opportunity slip past them last night.

Winnipeg Sun: Setoguchi on the move? There was a lot of chatter last night in the press box as to whether Setoguchi could be heading back to San Jose. As with most of these rumours there was plenty of speculation but nothing concrete although I did notice him talking to Nabokov during the pre-game skate.

TSN: Jets out-chance Islanders but fall in overtime. Dennis gives you his assessment of the game from his perch high above the ice surface.

CBC: Jets GM has tough decisions with Mark Stuart and Olli Jokinen. CBC is doing a feature on the Canadian teams and today Tim Wharnsby puts the Jets in the hot seat and evaluates their situation.

Globe and Mail: Trade deadline primer – Winnipeg Jets. Cue the insanity as names are flying across the web with real and speculative trades happening seemingly by the minute. The Globe looks at whether the Jets will be buyers/sellers, team needs, on the block and X-factor.

Islanders 3 Jets 2 in OT:

Winnipeg Jets: Andrew Ladd, Blake Wheeler and Olli Jokinen.

New York Islanders: Coach Capuano, Cal Clutterbuck, Michael Grabner and Anders Nilsson.

Coach Maurice post-game presser: Coach Maurice met with the media following the game against the Islanders.

Post-game podcast from the Press box: Host Drew Mindell and Analyst Richard Pollock break down the Jets play against the Islanders.

Coach Maurice - Initial thoughts on Trade deadline day. His thoughts on Scheifele (“not going to be any surgery required”). What is the official diagnosis? (MCL Sprain). What type of hole does that leave in this lineup? Will they look to bring someone up for tomorrow’s game? If things remain status quo what ripple effect does Scheifele injury have on team? Update on Thorburn (“day to day, questionable for tomorrow”). How do you manage the emotion of the team when you lose an important player like Scheifele? Had a similar scenario like this before in his career? How can his leadership help team get over a game like last night. Time line on Scheifele’s injury? Thoughts on Halischuk’s first game back.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Playoff-tested Kings stiff challenge for Winnipeg. If the Jets are going to make the playoffs they are going to have to earn it. Won’t be many “easy” games down the stretch and tonight is certainly not going to be a light opponent.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets won’t call on Burmistrov. Not forgotten by everyone. Plenty of people still reference the centre as a possible aid to the Jets need for help at that position. Article also discusses the suddenly crowded sick bay, Setoguchi’s quick escape, Jokinen not stressed and the Jets iron men.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...v3-300x143.jpg

Winnipeg Free Press: Time wasn’t right for Chevy to deal high-end prospects. It most certainly was not. This team isn’t a move away from being a serious contender in the West. No point in mortgaging the future at this point.

Winnipeg Free Press: Scheifele injury jolts Jets. The importance of the Jets rookie to this team is huge and it was clear that everyone on this team recognizes his importance to the team.

Winnipeg Free Press: Sticking to the game plan. Taking a look at the short and somewhat sparse history of the Jets deadline moves.

Winnipeg Free Press: A history of silence. Which the Jets GM would tell you is in keeping with his long term vision for his team.

Winnipeg Sun: Ken’s Notebook. In today’s peek inside, Ken talks trade deadline, Stuart signing extension with Jets and the Scheifele injury.

Winnipeg Sun: Stay-at-home defenceman. Some were surprised by the length of term (four years) but many were happy to see the well liked D-man retained by the club.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...wm-300x173.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Centre of attention. It is a position that the Jets really have no depth and one they could ill afford an injury but it happened and now they are forced to make due.

Winnipeg Sun: Sink or swim. Paul argues that yesterday was a missed opportunity for the GM to help get this team over the hump and truly into the playoff race. Would you have preferred to see the Jets sell off future assets for the chance to win now?

Illegal Curve: GM Cheveldayof presser. If you missed it we have the entire 20 minute presser on site. Topics ranged from the Mark Stuart contract to all the trade opportunities.

Illegal Curve: Coach Maurce scrum. Initial thoughts on Trade deadline day.

IceCaps news:

The Telegram: IceCaps untouched after NHL trade day. The team is hot right now (6-0-0-1) and challenging in the East so they have to be happy they weren’t pillaged by the parent club.

NHL Mid-Week:

Interview with Jim Jamieson of the Vancouver Province. Interview with Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette. Florida Panthers acquire Roberto Luongo and the mess that is the Vancouver Canucks. Tampa Bay Lightning trade Martin St. Louis to the New York Rangers. Penguins and Kings deadline deals.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Maurice moving Frolik to centre for Jets. Going to be a big move and not an easy one to jump from the wing to centre but coach Maurice trusts in Frolik’s versatility.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...ce-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Bringing Frolik in at centre. Should be interesting to see what he can do against these tough L.A. Kings tonight.

TSN: Jets welcome streaking Kings to MTS Centre. Brian breaks down the game in advance of the early 6 pm start time.

NHL.com: Gaborik era begins for the Kings against the Jets. His style of play was said to not compliment the Columbus system but will he fit in with the Kings? Only time will tell.

CBC: 5 things to watch for as Jets clash with Kings. Jeff takes a gander at the game and gives you five things to think about including; 1) Kings Court, 2) Another benchmark game, 3) Scheifele out, 4) Staying put and 5) Under the microscope.

Manitoba Hockey News: Stuart delighted with new deal. Always nice as a native Winnipegger to hear someone from outside our city speak so highly of it and show a connection. You know with Stuart it isn’t simply someone speaking platitudes for the fans.

Illegal Curve: Mark Stuart discusses new contract and staying in Winnipeg (audio). On getting the call. Was he tempted to wait till the summer? Re-committing to this organization/city. Being a leader in the room and influencing the young players. The players who helped him when he first got into the league. Has he used what they taught him with players like Trouba? Might this be his last contract?
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...ct-300x172.jpg

Illegal Curve: Coach Maurice pre-game scrum (audio). Status of Bryan Little. Why move Frolik to centre? Biggest concern having a winger at centre? Thoughts on the Jets maintaining the status quo on deadline day. Comment on Mark Stuart’s contract. Appreciation of Stuart’s game. On recall of John Albert.

Note: Reminder that with a 2 pm start for the Jets and Senators, the Illegal Curve Hockey Show kicks off game day coverage on TSN 1290 Winnipeg starting at 8 am. Guests: James Gordon (Ottawa Citizen) and Anthony SanFilippo (InsidetheFlyers).

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Maurice juggles, Jets struggle. It was fairly evident what the impact of the loss of Mark Scheifele has had on this team. At one point the shots were 7-7 but eventually the Kings took over and ended the night with 41 shots.

Winnipeg Free Press: Hot squad puts on a clinic. That was the Kings sixth straight win and they are clearly a team that is playing as a team. Even a Buff hit that sent Jake Muzzin into the Jets bench wasn’t enough.
http://illegalcurve.com/wp-content/u...it-300x203.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Long way to go yet. The Jets are fighting for a place at the table while the Kings have been sitting there for some time. Paul also covers the Kane/Doughty battle, coach Maurice still learning and what did Cheveldayoff say?

Winnipeg Sun: Hail to the Kings. It was quite a display of the difference between a veteran playoff team and one that isn’t at that level yet. While the Jets help their own early on the Kings talent was just too much for Winnipeg last night.

Winnipeg Sun: Stuart all heart. Lots of love from everyone involved.

CBC: Jets get a reality check in loss to Kings. If not for the play of Ondrej Pavelec the score easily could have been five goals higher.

TSN: Jets fall three points back of Stars in loss to Kings. Dennis assess the loss from his perch high above the ice surface at the MTS Centre.

Kings 3 Jets 1:

Winnipeg Jets: Andrew Ladd, Ondrej Pavelec, Evander Kane and Jacob Trouba.

L.A. Kings: Dustin Brown, Mike Richards and Marian Gaborik.

Coach Maurice post-game presser: Coach Maurice met with the media following the game against the Kings.

Post-game podcast from the Press box: Host Drew Mindell and Analyst Richard Pollock break down the Jets play against the Kings.

Jets on a Deadline. Game recaps, post-game audio, video highlights and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night.

IceCaps news:

The Telegram: St. John’s could use an angel. With the prospect of the Jets moving things to Thunder Bay the folks in St. John’s are still looking for a team to fill the void that could be left when/if the IceCaps move.

The Telegram: Jets give Albert a call. The Jets originally suggested they weren’t going to make any call ups but did in fact get Albert on an emergency basis.
