Hemsky talks about his future

In this interview, Hemmer seems kind of resigned about his future with the Oilers:

and here I thought the Oilers just re-signed Hemsky.

I'm not sure the thread title could be any more confusing.

tv14 02-24-2014 03:49 PM

Title needs to be changed ASAP.

Spawn 02-24-2014 03:49 PM

Poor choice of wording for the thread title I think. Deliberately one would assume.

If Hemsky does get moved, I'm going to miss him. He's not the player he was, but he was a heck of a player for a long time. Best offensive player we had for about 6 years.

AlowlyOilersfan 02-24-2014 03:50 PM

I think he has a realistic outlook.

This. Still one of my fav Oilers, and I'm not afraid to admit it.

the tikk 02-24-2014 03:51 PM

Hey - what happened to my totally accurate title?

Soundwave 02-24-2014 03:51 PM

I changed the title and will let that slide this time, but if I see something like that again, I will consider it deliberate.

CornKicker 02-24-2014 03:58 PM

i think he realistic to the situation and wants a chance to play for a contender

Let's eat grandpa.
Let's eat, grandpa.

Grammar matters.

The Bored Man 02-24-2014 04:09 PM

What was the original title?

Edit: never mind.

The thing for me is he might actually be better than most give him credit for. Lockout he goes out and produces at 1.18 PPG and .52GPG. Yes some will say it was only the Czech league, but the last time around he's numbers were no where near that in the lockout. Yet that very next season he had his best year as an NHLer.

Now I'm not suggesting that Hemsky is due to breakout and have a career year, but I sure as hell wouldn't be shocked to see him get 60+ points next year.

belair 02-24-2014 04:31 PM

If you're getting crap offers for him, you get him signed.

We won't find anyone better.

3 x 3.5

Always nice to have offensive depth. Gagner is the one who should be moved. I have no problems playing Hemsky in the role he is now. The problem is does he like his role?

We wont find any better fit for the third line than a redundant, inconsistent, oft-injured, one-dimensional 40 point scorer?

Groucho 02-24-2014 04:39 PM

Think Hemsky could be converted to play C?

I kid, I kid.

That's the problem, I doubt he wants to stick around being a 3rd liner. It was bad enough last time we re-signed him in how his role had diminished. I just don't see a soon to be 31 year old sticking around any more to play a 3rd line role. It's not like we could say play third line and then run the 2nd PP, because that doesn't even seem likely anymore.

After Gordon Hemsky is the best two-way forward on the team.

Oilerzfan 02-24-2014 04:56 PM

I will always respect Hemsky and the time he put in here with Edmonton. If we can resign the guy at a decent contract, why not? He provides good depth and experience, and has always been a class act as this vid shows. He doesn't knock anyone and would just prefer to play.

:handclap:

If he leaves us within the week, I will wish him the best and say my thanks for the years of service.

Sloth Slothersons* 02-24-2014 05:01 PM

Set him free. He deserves better.

nexttothemoon 02-24-2014 05:04 PM

I have a feeling he ends up with the Devils.

Aerchon 02-24-2014 05:09 PM

At the time 5mill per year for Hemsky didn't seem that bad to me. We have all seen what he can do.

He is not the same guy anymore. I still think he is a very good player and he will go down as my personal favorite Oiler for at least half a decade.

But.

-He plays tough but still isn't great in the corners.
-Isn't a big hitter.
-Much better back checking but still not his calling card.
-No longer has the ability to drive the play for a full game or a even better yet a full season. aka, he disappears.

He is not a top line player anymore. If he had better supporting cast he would be a good #2 RW.

I think he has been a nice depth scoring forward for us but really doesn't fit anywhere or have any solid chemistry with anyone. When he scores its usually a great individual effort.

He needs to move on for himself.

We need to get someone in that can play a heavier role in our top 9.

Oh and 5 mill is way too much for his role on this team... or any other as he currently plays.

Dabomb 02-24-2014 05:10 PM

He would do well in Detroit which is where I hope he ends up.
