The sentimental part of me hopes he goes back to SJ. I always love it when a player makes a return to a place where they enjoyed success, but I seem to remember something of a schism between Nolan and management at the time? Did it have to do with his area restaurants? Did they not like the food? :)

In all honesty, I think he would make a great fit for a team like Calgary or Carolina (who might be looking to replace O'Neill) where he can fit right in grinding it out and playing hard nosed. Question is if his injury proneness is going to knock down his price to any large degree.

Maybe the sens should take a hard look at Nolan. Definately would bring some intangibles to the table.

Back to the topic at hand, if Nolan is effectively bought out, I think Nolan and Leclair are in similar situations. They are guys I wouldn't want on my team, unless I could get them for a bargain price 1 million or less. Perhaps they remain unsigned, and then a team takes a chance on them mid-season, when teams realize their offenses didn't pan out.

Both can be signed to those "injury clause" contracts ----- teams might be willing to sign them for a year.

If I were him, I would make sure I get injured status somehow, no matter what.

Then the next year I would be eligable for one of those 'spent 100 days on the IR' incentive contracts.

Caniac 08-11-2005 03:08 PM

I would like to see him go to Carolina because they needed a scoring right winger since we got rid of O'Neill.

Toronto. That seems to be the place to be for injured retreads!!!

Didn't they both play more 60-70 games last year? I read an article where it said that Lindros was not "injury bonus" eligible and he only played in 39 games.

Toronto did not buy Nolan out, he's injured (out 6 months was the estimate), and still Leaf property.

JFJ stated a week ago that the Leafs have already filed his buyout papers with the NHL.
The only question to be answered is whether a buyout is necessary at 1 or 2yrs worth of his contract, or if no buyout is necessary and he's an UFA.
That won't be answered till' he filed a grievance with the NHLPA.
