Buffalo claims Cory Conacher off waivers

Hockey Central ‏@SNHockeyCentral now
Buffalo picked up Conacher off waivers.

I'm betting this was pre-arranged.

@mbrownSN590 #Sabres claim Cory Conacher off waivers

Shmuffalo 03-05-2014 10:22 AM

I don't understand how Ottawa could get absolutely nothing for him. I'm really happy to have him! I hope he can be a solid 2nd/3rd line winger.

sba 03-05-2014 10:23 AM

This will be fun, he's Linus Omark with ties to Buffalo so he'll get blindly defended forever.

sabresfan129103 03-05-2014 10:24 AM

This will be official at noon, but no surprise. They're gonna need people in the top 6 after today.

Rumours of Cory Conacher being claimed by Sabres off Waivers. Just spoke with Cory and he has not been notified of anything yet.

barcs 03-05-2014 10:24 AM

Excited.

VaporTrail 03-05-2014 10:25 AM

this seems more of a + move rather than a tank move...

Tony Clifton 03-05-2014 10:25 AM

Good move.

TyMy57 03-05-2014 10:26 AM

Was hoping this would happen! Love it!

No, he is an actual NHL player which Linus never was.

I think there will be enough "-" moves today that we can stand for a "+" move or two...

And regardless, the same people will be negative about everything!

Guy is gonna be an instant crowd favorite for you guys.

Looks like Uncle Bryan gave Tim a graduation present.

Really didn't get an opportunity over here and was a victim of Spezza not being able to play with anyone, and still got more points per icetime than a lot of our players. something like 24 penalties drawn and like 7 against. Fast guy and not afraid to go to the dirty areas. You'll love him.

This sounds PERFECT to me. Exactly what we need right now.

Exactly. Their act is quite old. It's essentially just spam at this point.

yahhockey 03-05-2014 10:49 AM

He's a RFA after this season so the team can give him a two year deal to evaluate his growth and see if he may fit with our longterm plans. He is an asset we acquired for nothing so it's a win-win. The Sens waiving him could be to clear cap space more so for next season more so than the current one, meaning they still may be looking at acquiring Stewart or someone with a 2014-15 contract.

Pretty much could be a Marchand lite. Could stumble a bit on the ice but thats due to the fact that he's fast and has as pretty good forcheck. Tim loved him, I really hope he does well. He was the least of our problems this year and many of us were confused why he got waived. Guy is a standup guy, will do a lot of things without complaints.

Everyone hates him when he's on the ice except for his team and the fans. Might need to work on defense when he moves to a new system like he did in Ottawa.

When he played with stable linemantes (his bff Zibanejad) he played very very well. Victim of circumstance tbh.

Might have to start watching more Sabres now that you guys have Tim on the helm and Cory. Weird liking a conference rival that meets all the time during the playoffs :sarcasm:

Low risk, very high reward. This was kind of a no brainer, but still excited

Even if it takes a year for him to completely bust out as a worst case scenario, there's really no damage done. At this point we've pretty much got nothing to lose with any young player who has shown some offensive upside.

Sabretooth 03-05-2014 10:59 AM

This is like a bonus TDL acquisition :) love it!
