When was the last time we had a top 5 goal scorer?

Still a few games left but there is hope we have one this season. So when was the last time we had one of these?

Richer finished 7th.

Pretty sure Lafleur was the last one

I guess 77-78 is the year. Only 36 years of waiting ...

Garp 04-04-2014 09:53 PM

@ArponBasu : I think you have to go back to Lafleur coming 3rd with 52 goals in 1978-79 to see a member of #Habs as high as Pacioretty on NHL goals list

LeHab 04-04-2014 09:59 PM

Missed that one, thanks.

Lafleurs Guy 04-04-2014 10:00 PM

Probably Newsy Lalonde.

Richer had 50 twice and wasn't top 5???

Garp 04-04-2014 10:05 PM

@ArponBasu : Stephane Richer's 50 goals in 1987-88 were tied for 6th in the NHL. Max Pacioretty, again, is currently fourth. In 1989-90 Stephane Richer had 51 goals. He was tied for seventh in the NHL.

6th with 50 goal. Colisse.

That was back in the day when 50 goal scorers were much more common than today. It was still a great feat but more common back then. A guy who hit 50 could still have 5-10+ players ahead of him on the goals list.

Cammaleri was 2nd in goal until he injured himself on that barber shop night.

Dreadful.

Fun fact: Guy was at the game tonight. Saw a bunch of people crowded around him asking for autographs.
