See, there is a team playing at the Virtua Skate Zone here known as the Philadelphia Flyers that plays in the brand new United States Premier Hockey League.

What’s that league, you might ask?

The USPHL is uniquely positioned in the Atlantic region to facilitate a clear pathway for players graduating from Bantam hockey looking to progress through Midget and Junior Hockey on to college and pro hockey.

The USPHL will operate with 5 divisions – Premier, Elite and Empire at the Junior Level and 16U and 18U at the Midget level.

Each division provides a step in the progression to fulfilling a player’s ultimate goal of becoming a collegiate or professional hockey player.

Teams have been selected to participate in specific USPHL divisions based upon geography, strong player pools, rink ownership, financial strength and history of success and integrity at the highest level.

@FLYguy about Alderson, I agree. I think he's a bit of a project but he just turned 22 a few months back so in a few years when he's McGinn's age, I could see him pushing for a 4th line spot.

For a 6'4" guy he can really skate.

Offensively his most effective play has always (with the Flyers anyway) been to skate like the wind to the red line and dump the puck in. Like I said, he can shoot the puck when he gets a nice feed and he's shown some ability to jump up in the offensive zone and get involved. But he's never shown any creativity offensively. He's never shown the ability to really generate any offense on his own.

And just to be clear. I'm a Coburn fan. He should have gotten the Ashbee this year. But he is what he is and always has been, at least with the Flyers.

I don't think anyone is arguing he is an offensive defenseman. Just that when he was drafted as an 18 year old teams saw a 6'5 defenseman that could skate. Their was a perception that he had offensive upside. And for a few years, he showed he did have some skills. Not elite offensive tools but maybe enough to classify him as a two-way guy and not just a stay-at-home guy.

I'm not saying he was offensively talented as those guys but there used to be more to his game than just being a stay at home guy, the numbers don't lie. You don't put up nearly 40 points in your first NHL season as a 22 year old by being a slouch offensively.

For whatever reason he regressed offensively since his first full year here but I remember people being very excited about his two-way potential after that year.

FlyersFan61290 04-18-2014 08:04 PM

Straka is very skilled but also lazy. Some games he's all over the place and really skating, others he just coasts. He won't make it to the NHL unless his work ethic is improved. Reminds me a lot of a not so skilled Zherdev.

sa cyred 04-18-2014 08:09 PM

Their doing the wave LOL.

sa cyred 04-18-2014 08:13 PM

How do you give up a 3 on 1 on the PP?

SolidSnakeUS 04-18-2014 08:14 PM

Ghost did what he could on that. That was awful.

Appleyard 04-18-2014 08:14 PM

Wth ref... that is absurd!

Jtown 04-18-2014 08:15 PM

What happened

LegionOfDoom91 04-18-2014 08:16 PM

The play-by-play guy really doesn't like that ref.

FlyersFan61290 04-18-2014 08:16 PM

Refs making their presence felt this game. Lots of calls and that was just stupid.

RoDu 04-18-2014 08:17 PM

Manning talking to a ref about a missed call or something behind the play that lead to a 3 on 1 shorthanded rush for the Tigers. The other ref proceeded to interject and give Manning 2 for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Bridgeport scored a shorty, Gostisbehere did a good job staying with his guy enough to where he couldn't get a shot off but he threw a pass back out front of the net from the corner but Cousins didn't cover his guy leading to the goal.

Under 10 min left in the game though.

FlyersFan61290 04-18-2014 08:22 PM

Another pk coming up.

Edit: The color guy is very vocal. It's pretty obvious he wants a win in the final game in ADK.

sa cyred 04-18-2014 08:23 PM

Come on can not hate the commenter haha. Going at the refs there

size and speed, a good combo, our 4th line needs work maybe he can get a shot next year

Isn't this Ryan Pulock's pro debut as well?

He has gotten better as the season went on. He struggled abit with the play in the beginning. For his size he isnt a bad skater, but his skill kind of prevents alot from happening. Stand in front of the net type of player.

I havent seen to many April games but he looks better. He struggled in the early months but got better as time went on.

Appleyard 04-18-2014 08:28 PM

The Alt-Hägg pairing breaks the puck out of the zone so easily and cleanly each time.
