Predators select...

Chris Mason...that's right, the former Nashville Predators goalie, who we got rid of...wtf is Poile doing?

and add to that...Wade Brookbank from Ottawa

could brookbank make the team this year? he's a big time fighter, are the preds looking for someone to fill that role?

We just signed McKenzie and Allison for that role, maybe with Tootoo we need more protection.

iirc, don't players selected in the waiver draft HAVE to be on the roster for X period of time?

If so, I guess we know where Lasak will be...

There isn't any time requirement really. If the Preds decide to send down Mason to the AHL, he'd have to clear waivers and the Panthers would have highest priority in claiming him.

This happened a few years ago, Carolina claimed Josh Holden from Vancouver, then sent him down when he didn't deserve an NHL roster spot. Vancouver opted to take him back. Calgary waived Rico Fata a few years back, the Rangers took him, then sent him down, but Calgary (and then the rest of the league) figured they didn't have NHL roster room either.

In general, the purpose of the waiver draft is to give players buried in the depth chart on one team the ability to play on another.

Welp, Poile just spend $100,000 on two guys that won't make a difference. Meanwhile, Allison gets injured in the game tonight. Hamhuis is still out with an injury. York is still questionable. It's just a matter of time before another defensive injury occurs. And a matter of time before our defense folds for the season. Should've gotten Simpson.

I must say I don't agree with the moves Polie made, I guess he's trying to win the AHL Cup...

brookbank is ready and able to step in as a 6th dman in this league, and i think he will.
he is a huge physical package, very intimidating defenseman who will drop the gloves. jacques martin has always said he considered him to be an nhl calibre player. worst case scenario he's your 7th dman or irst callup. you will like him

See, this is what I had heard from several other Sens fans. They said he lost out in a numbers game. And if you are going to lose out in a defensive numbers game, Ottawa isn't a bad team to do it in.

Just because you know nothing of Brookbanks doesn't mean he's a bad player. Ask Ottawa fans about him. He might not be good enough for their defense but Ottawa > Nashville.
