Brad Richards has been BOUGHT OUT.
“@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Brad Richards has been bought out by the New York Rangers, source says”

HatTrick Swayze 06-20-2014 11:28 AM

100% the right play timing-wise. Give the man a last week with his teammates. Bury the news leading into a weekend.

Lundsanity30 06-20-2014 11:29 AM

Peace out

Bleed Ranger Blue 06-20-2014 11:29 AM

Good. Low hanging fruit.

Now on to the tough decisions.

Mikos87 06-20-2014 11:29 AM

Been real Brad. Liked you as a person, and enjoyed the success the team had with you in the line up in the playoffs the last three seasons.

Going to be a challenge to replace a 50 pt 2nd line center, but the legs just weren't there any more.

Glad it's over with. Now the offseason can really begin.

Lundsanity30 06-20-2014 11:30 AM

Thanks for this last year... but it was the move that had to be made.

Oak 06-20-2014 11:30 AM

I wonder which team signs him now? :D

Vitto79 06-20-2014 11:31 AM

had to be done. he was so close to winning the Cup. I said they had 3 yrs to do so when he was signed now see ya

he tried so lets not be too hard on the guy

Fletch 06-20-2014 11:32 AM

it was the right move given future implications, but make no mistake, the Rangers do need to replace this player while trying to retain much of the rest of their team. Easy decision, but there is a lot of work to be done since this team is now worse than it was when it played its last game.

jas 06-20-2014 11:32 AM

As someone who was a fan of bringing him in, this is a disappointing day. The immediate drop off last year made this move inevitable. Best of luck, Mr. Richards.

haveandare 06-20-2014 11:32 AM

Seemed like a good guy.

Looked like he was more or less the unofficial captain for the rest of this season, so I'm grateful to him for that, honestly.

The new CBA kind of made this inevitable. I hope he finds a less demanding role somewhere else that he can thrive in. He's still an NHL player.

RangerBoy 06-20-2014 11:33 AM

The Rangers needed the money for the rest of their team. It was either Richards or two other players.

JohnC 06-20-2014 11:33 AM

Gave us some good memories. Good luck to Brad

DMPD 06-20-2014 11:33 AM

Brad RIPchards.

CJCNYR 06-20-2014 11:34 AM

1 ECF, 1 2nd round and 1SCF appearance.

Thanks for the 3 seasons Brad!

Right move by the team though, will miss his leadership, seemed like a great guy but just contractually he could not stay on this team.

GordonGecko 06-20-2014 11:35 AM

time to move on

Idlerlee 06-20-2014 11:35 AM

This feels bad because Richards is such a great guy, but there was no other choice. I hope he finds a club that he can thrive in

Gotta agree with this, feeling mostly disappointment. And Richards definitely gave the Rangers a good top-6 center. He was a significant part of the Rangers doing what they did the last 3 years. But his legs dropping out from under him, the new recapture rules, plus the 9-year term made this a necessity.

Best of luck to Brad...well unless he goes to the Pens or Devils.

xChrisTilDeathx 06-20-2014 11:36 AM

this is the right move

Xref 06-20-2014 11:40 AM

He was very good for our team until Father Time caught up with him. It's a young mans game, so we need to improve the position with youthful energy. He just hit the lottery, so congrats, Brad! :handclap:

TeamStewie 06-20-2014 11:40 AM

Sad but unfortunately had to be done. Stupid new CBA.

SoftEuro4thLiner 06-20-2014 11:41 AM

2 good runs. Thanks for that.
