Hecht Has A Broken Arm

Story

Damn you Nedorost.

imyourhuckleberry 10-04-2003 06:08 PM

It's Hecht, he's injury prone, what do you expect? Roy will have a full time spot however now I'm sure.

He got hit from behind into the boards. Who the hell isn't when they are that vulnerable?

Takeo 10-04-2003 06:23 PM

This is so f-ing typical. I feel horrible for the guy.

Slangston 10-04-2003 06:31 PM

It's almost as if the Sabres have bullseyes on the back of their jerseys. This is getting ridiculous.

well no crap, of course he's vulnerable but it figures out of all the guys who get hit hard and all the guys who get hit from behind that Hecht, who only played half the amout of games last year will only play about the same this year because of yet another injury.

Matzel 10-04-2003 07:17 PM

I drafted Hecht (Yahoo Fantasy League), because I thought he was going to have a breakout season. The guy has got some serious talent. Unfortunately, he's also got some serouis bad luck with injuries. It's a shame, not just for him, but also for me...

Good Luck!

Dancin' Gabe rules!

Jooce81 10-04-2003 07:31 PM

Very unfortunate, I was looking forward to see what Hecht-Briere-Dumont could do with a whole season... anyways, i think it definatly opens up a spot for Derek Roy

Puddy 10-04-2003 07:39 PM

With Hecht out, should Regier sign veteran Steve Thomas?

BG43 10-04-2003 07:41 PM

This really sucks.

I feel so bad for Hecht.. I was really looking forward to seeing him play with good health this season but the season hasn't even begun yet and he's been hit with this..

It's kind of ironic that the last time I talked to Hecht it was about his ear injury and now if I see him around.. I'm going to have to talk to him about his arm injury..

Poor guy.. I really wish that this didn't happen.. he's so unlucky..

I just hope he heals and is ready to play sooner rather than later

Rhett4 10-04-2003 08:08 PM

I can't help but agree. This really does suck.

Takeo 10-04-2003 08:26 PM

Well I guess Pyatt-Briere-Dumont could be interesting...

What about...

Kotalik-Drury-Satan
Pyatt-Briere-Dumont
Brown-Roy-Afinogenov
Peters-Mair-Botterill

...to start the season.

Then when Boulton returns we can send Botts back since Boulton shouldn't be out too much more than a week after the season starts.

I don't know how long Connolly will be out with that concussion, so Roy sticks on the third line.

Of course, I don't know if Mair will be playing Thursday. I doubt he will miss the opener, but I hope his shoulder doesn't make him hit any less.

Peters vs. Brashear...that's going to be interesting.

He should sign him even if Hecht wasn't injured and the price was right.

KillToronto 10-05-2003 04:30 AM

I hope Peters beats the living ***** outta Nedorost next time we play Columbus. Coward.

I wouldn't necessarily be against that, but I just don't see where he fits in. Do you sign him at the expense of playing time for Afinogenov or Connolly...not sure. Of course, BROWN-ROY-THOMAS could be a great third line.

Just curious...has there been any substantial rumours about Regier's interest in Thomas or has all this been generated here?

I can't see Gollisano going out and spending another 2 - 4 mil (I have no idea what Thomas is looking for) on any player right now. Besides that, a lot of what I read here is that this team needs more toughness. How is a 5'9" 155 pounder going to help? We would be well on our way to having the samllest team in the league...

Just out of curiousity...what is the early prognosis?

How bad of a broken arm is it...mild fracture or compound fracture or in between?

How many weeks/months is Jochen expected to miss?

6-8 weeks I believe.

I think Thomas is cheap, anywhere from 500,000 to 800,000 for 1 year. I think it would be a great pick up, a veteran who knows how to win and could show leadership to some of the younger guys like Roy, Connolly, Pyatt and even brown which could add to their knowledge of the game. We have freed up some money with begin and bouchard gone so why not, lets sign him!

I've been saying this for, I dunno, the WHOLE Summer. Thomas would be a great 3rd line addition. The problem is Buffalo is already overloaded with quantity (not quality). I would love to see Buffalo trade to upgrade their size and toughness on the top 2 lines and then sign Thomas.

These lines are exactly what I think will happen. I wouldn't mind Steve Thomas in place of Botterill, but can live with giving Jason a shot at sticking with the 4th line. Who knows, he may be a late blooming Andreychuk type. At least we have improved depth and don't have to rush into making a deal to fill holes. Now if we could get Biron to win us a few more of these pre-season games, I would definitely feel great going into the regular season.

EHCler 10-05-2003 11:54 AM

I **** to see Hecht injured again. His is just having really bad luck at present first this horrible puck incident last year and now brakes his arm in preseason, when he was checkes from behind. At SL and EDM he never really had any bad injuries and barely missed any games.

Even worse, I believe it was started by Al Strachan.

But, Regier confirmed that they had some mild interest in Thomas, but when he was asked a week or so ago he didn't seem like he was serious about it.

Now that the Sabres have lost Begin in the waiver draft and Hecht has been hurt, again, I think that Regier will be at least talking to the agents for guys like Thomas and perhaps Adam Graves.

Regier was sounding like he didn't like the idea of going with a young guy to replace Hecht in the lineup. But, I hope his idea of a veteran replacement isn't Botterill.

And, I think they could get Graves for around $500,000 and Thomas for somewhere in the $750,000 to $1 million range right now. That wouldn't be too much to pay for veterans of their ilk. The big question is would TG and LQ OK a bump in payroll though......

Although, if they are thinking about keeping Roy, Milley, or Bartovic up instead then that likely isn't that big of a salary boost, and it might actually cost less than keeping a young guy, at least until Hecht is back in the lineup.
