Official Guidelines for Shootouts during Preseason

All preseason games to end in a shootout, no matter what the score.

Three players initially....then goes on to sudden death and intial 3 players can't participate again unless everyone of bench has taken a shot.

Partial dry cut [no water] Zamboni run 4 passes only down center of ice.

Final shoot out guidelines for Regular Season to be issued after preseason.

Okay HT the official "link" man you need to come up with a link for the touch-up offsides rule. It seems that the officials are calling the old offsides rule during scrimmages but who really knows since the CBA isn't published yet.

303 and I talked about that about an hour ago.....total confusion at this point about how close the skater is to the blueline and when he breaks back about when they are calling and when they are letting it go during scrimmage today....you were there...did you get a feel or were you as confused as he was?

 I was as confused as everyone else. The play that really got me was when (can't remember either player right now) an attacking player skated across the blueline a split second before a teammate (that was sprinting back) touched the blueline and they stopped the play. To me this is the perfect opportunity to continue play. There was a one on one rush (almost a break away) with someone that wasn't affecting play trying his best to get out of the zone. :dunno: IMO for this rule to work properly as long as the player got back to the line before affecting play there should be no offsides.

Those refs are USA hockey refs, not NHL, USA Hockey hasn't changed, so they're not used to it. They aren't calling the obstruction either.

I wasn't going to bring up the amount of stick work that has been going on that is supposed to be called this year. I just wish these fools would publish that CBA and more importantly the rules.

FWIW: Gamache had the puck, Timonen was hustling to get back.

Thanks QM, I thought it was Kimmo but did remember Gamache at all. I should also add that both players were against opposite boards so Kimmo was nowhere near the attack. :dunno:

Yeah... he got knocked down or tripped or just fell in the zone and lost his stick. He skated over to get it while the play moved out of the zone. Gamache got the puck (bad pass?) and was mostly all alone as he streaked to the zone. Someone yelled about getting onside and Timonen made a mad dash toward the line. I personally thought this should have been called offsides, but as is pointed out, the offensive player offsides was not in the area of the play and was making an extreme effort to get back onside. :dunno:
