Your Team Could Win the Cup This Year If....?

Inspired by the more negative thread of why your team won't win the Cup, list what would have to happen for your team to possibly win the Cup.

We won the WCF.

LarKing 08-07-2014 07:23 PM

For the Wings, a lot honestly. Datsyuk and Zetterberg would have to stay healthy, our youth would have to take the next step and play with more consistency. Howard would have to be the goalie he was in the Anaheim and Chicago series two years ago. Our defense would have to play much better, ie Ericsson would have to step up, Dekeyser would have to take another step, and Smith would have to become a legit top 4 type of defenseman.

If the Sharks finally learned how to stop choking and start swallowing.

canuck4life16 08-07-2014 07:28 PM

get rid of the bad refs

rynryn 08-07-2014 07:37 PM

We would have a chance if we had a completely healthy goalie having a career year. otherwise I'd say we'd have to count on an even more unlikely scenario that saw an offensive explosion from several players...not just Vanek.

Price plays out of his mind

Ristoreilly 08-07-2014 07:43 PM

We entered an alternate dimension.

If We Won the WCF

They stay healthy.

Filip Forceberg 08-07-2014 07:48 PM

Rinne plays 65+ games, Neal & Ribeiro have stellar chemistry, & Jones doesn't have the typical sophomore slump.

chupanibre 08-07-2014 07:51 PM

...every other team gets food poisoning. Even then we'd have a hard time.

Tatar Shots 08-07-2014 07:51 PM

If we make Lidstrom 10 years younger and put him back on the team.

SaintMorose 08-07-2014 07:51 PM

We get moved down to the AHL 15 games in.

DKQ 08-07-2014 07:56 PM

Jagr, Elias and Havlat all play like its 2001, and Adam Larsson becomes Nick Lidstrom 2.0

We got dis.

jdatb 08-07-2014 08:00 PM

If I bought NHL 15 (Canucks)

Skobel24 08-07-2014 08:06 PM

Realistically, it would take a ****ing ton for Calgary to even be a contender.

1. Giordano would need a repeat season.
2. Monahan, Baertschi, and Gaudreau (and possibly Bennett) would need to have monster seasons
3. Either Hiller or Ramo would need to have a Vezina worthy season.
4. They'd need to stay healthy.

#1 is entirely possible. The rest, not so much.

New Sabres Captain 08-07-2014 08:09 PM

The Cup was the 1st overall draft pick. Or in other words, HF-mindset was reality.

Azir 08-07-2014 08:09 PM

If we played the Flames in the finals.

Mongo Nation 08-07-2014 08:10 PM

:devils

One of Jon Merrill/Adam Larsson turns into a #1 defenseman this year, the other one plays well, and Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise (or an equivalent pair) suddenly re-appear on the roster

Or this:

We do exactly what we did last year only with Nash scoring in the playoffs.

FlaPnthrsPunk 08-07-2014 08:13 PM

Literally a miracle happens. Let's check back in a couple of seasons.

Bluesman91 08-07-2014 08:14 PM

If we beat Chicago or LA

DyerMaker66 08-07-2014 08:16 PM

If we had more depth at forward.

416Leafer 08-07-2014 08:28 PM

For the Leafs, it would require an incredible amount of luck and a bold move or two.

-Bernier would have to show himself to be the real deal
-Rielly would need to have a breakout season similar to Doughty, Pietrangelo, Karlsson, etc from recent years
-Leafs would need to trade for an upgrade at C, very likely one well known for solid two-way play
-They would then still need to get lucky and wade through a weak Eastern conference. They would need a couple of Pittsburgh/Boston/etc to be upset by lesser teams to make their path to the Cup easier (similar to NYR and NJD from recent years), as opposed to getting three tough matchups back-to-back-to-back
-They'd need Bernier to steal them a series against a superior WC team
